We leave everything open at night and shut it up early morning. Learnt this when living in the bush in Australia. We remember when it was 110 degrees, day and night for over three weeks, then they forecast 100 degrees, we were happy it was going to be a cool day. Many a time we took the mattress off the bed and slept on the floor by the open door to get fresher air.
Today its 35 here in central Portugal has been up to 38 this week. Thankfully it does cool down at night. Not as humid as the UK though.

Don't know how the forecasters do it? Supposed to be hot and sunny today in Bristol. Whilst it's been warm (rather than hot), we've had a couple of heavy showers and much black cloud.

Got to a sweltering 24C Must meet up some time!Don’t think the weather on the Fylde coast turned out too bad today after all. ☀ not looking too good on the south coast for a change!
Trouble is after they first started fitting it in most cars from the late 90's they realised that they could get away with air con that really only works above tick over. made the compressors/evaporators/condensers smaller so that they are only reasonably efficient when the vehicle is moving. When you actually want it , stuck in a traffic jam is when it is the least efficient.I bet that there was a lot of engines running on tick over with the air con on
