A free aire next to a lake where you could pop in and swim and Ospreys ? were regularly flying down to the lake and swooping trying to catch something but we never saw them succeed.
There was a cycle round the lake and campsite at the other end
Unesco Heritage site near Montignac which has a paying aire or you can (or were able to) park for free by the stadium against the river which was well used
A series of caves with paintings
From memory you could pay to stay by the bridge or you could stay about a km up the road for free in a car park dedicated for motorhomes and nothing wrong with it. You can guess where we stayed. Lovely town on the river that goes to St Malo and renting boat was possible and actually considered...
I ll let you know my previous view of St Malo. I just thought Portsmouth equivalent before Portsmouth got some dolled up bits.
HOW WRONG WAS I ???
What a great town with a fully walled city with buzzing streets and class harbour and very very clean.
Forget Carcasonne this place is better in my...
Again I remember going there and it was quite nice. Cant remember where we stayed. Wish I had done a journal at the time !
Notes from the time went onto the peninsula of Quiberon today with lovely weather and beautiful beaches. It is only 50 metres wide at one point and the afternoon was spent...
I remember going there, I sort of remember staying there. I remember the harbour being nice and the walk along the side and there were tall ships there.
My notes of the time
Here was a surprise town in the middle of nowhere.
I knew them as a team from DIv 3 of the french league who played PSG in the final and I was nearby we attended. Very pleasant. I have no idea why there are writings on the photos !
10-12 euro over subscribed aire which has numerous places (100 ish ?) crammed in to see a beautifully aesthetic town centred around the harbour full of really nice restaurants all vying for your dollar. It really is a nice place. HOwever, not for us with those prices ! DOnt let me put you off...
In precis, the SS murdered 600+ civilians in cold blood by rounding them up shooting them in the legs and setting the building on fire and shooting them if they tried to escape in retaliation for alleged Resistance work.
The village has not been touched or lived in since and is a living...
We have just come back through this area and were looking for aires to stop at as we killed time waiting for our ferry back and never realised we had been here ! It was only going back through my posts that I found it. Having seen the photos I now remember it as a free stopover with good town...
We have always travelled in from nearby.
Its pretty flat around here and on most of the wine route going from village to village but the main town is somewhat of a corker as well with half timbered houses and pretty river running through
A serial winner of the Beaux Village of the year award. A village that might have 3-400 people live there yet 39 wine houses and a stork sanctuary.
You will see storks all over the place on the chimneys, but the place to stay is at a vineyard nearly within the confines of the village. Theres an...
The road above the Ardeche river with numerous stopping points some of which have scramble down walks to the river for completely wild sunbathing whilst watching the canoes go down. It starts at Pont De l'Arche where you have to park and no overnighting in this policed area. The Ceze is nearby...
Russell Crowe film A Good Year was part filmed in this stunning Beaux village. Magnificent from the outside, it is very good inside for people watching. If you havent seen the film it encapsulates the way of life around here nigh on perfectly.
There is an aire at the top of the village but that...
To the North East of the actual Mt Ventoux mountain is this little village with a bakery and bar, a lavoir and a cemetary. You park on the petanque pitch and reallocate water from the cemetary. Absolute bliss under the shadow of Ventoux. A flat road sees you make Montbrun les bains and the...
We stay at the Lavender Farm up above St Croix and it is a FP for which you will need the current book and card as they always check, been here 3 times now because you enter (after booking in at the reception) via their controlled gate and park up in their truffle orchard with loads of space. We...
Form my notes made at the time
We spent our wedding anniversary on a scooter around st tropez area in a thunderstorm and got saturated so much we stopped off at frejus where the red carpet was out for tractors and donkeys. Had to warm up so i relented and forked out for a burger from a back...
We went to a FP site in Ramatuelle, it was 4 years ago, there were another couple there who asked us not to tell people about it because it was lovely.
I have kept schtum for 4 years but now, I am going to keep schtum even longer. If you have FP you can find it, if you havent you can pay to go...
No idea where we stayed, probably inland somewhere and motorbiked in. I know we didnt stay at Cassis.
Its a bit of a trek to the Calanques from Cassis and even further from where you would have to park the motorhome.
Allegedly the Calanques are best seen from a boat which can be taken from...
In the morning we are off in our new to us van a Dethleffs Trend A Class 7057 I EB which we picked up a couple of weeks ago and in between working 12 hour shifts managed to get 280 ah of lithium with a 3000 watt inverter, fridge fans, an alarm and tracker and pimp it out. Solar didnt arrive in...
Cadenet was in our way on the bike route.
We saw it as we headed to Cucuron yesterday but didn't strike us as a must see, but we stopped anyway.
We may have made a mistake in following signs to the town centre which is at the bottom of the hill. Because the main attraction is at the top of...
Following on from the Carinthia Throughnal the rest of our holiday is no where near Carinthia so I created another throughnal.
Starting from Salzburg where we are staying and visited we expect to follow the alpinestraße loosely to Constance and hopefully Rhine Falls then maybe crossing Alsace...
Having done a few journals and one "live" one and listened to the feedback that it is more preferential for most to enjoy a thread with interaction rather than page clicking, I am going to try the Thrournal, a thread and journal and better sounding than a Jouread which might make me sound a bit...
Its Throunal time, A thread and a Journal. I write a sort of blog, load it up with photos, write a few words which may or may not assist somebody in the future when planning their holiday. Previous journals are in my signature of each post.
I, possibly because I have done a few, find them quite...
It is that time of year when we go on holiday and I do a journal. I call it a thrournal as I start with a journal and copy it into a thread. Hopefully others will do journals in the upcoming period as well. And the journal map is very helpful for holiday planning.
This holiday will be 28 days...

Intending to travel from around l'Orient down to as far as Ile de Re leaving on the overnight ferry from Newhaven on the night of 27th August.
In my signature you will find a couple of journals from this year, Bavaria and Languedoc, and some previous places I have added retrospectively under...
