I know it`s a wasp of sort`s.... but it is huge...

He would not stay still long enough alongside the twenty P piece..

But it was nearly half as long again..

Hornet..? Queen Wasp... ?? twice as big as a normal wasp.. :)

Wasp, possibly Wasp Queen as it's so big, not right colouring or shape for a hornet. They are one thing I don't miss about France!

Certainly look`s like one of them.. (y)

Sorry Pappajohn, Dont believe you... ;)

"Confused . Com"........... :(

meant to say - if yove got apple and plum etc trees...watch out for them on the ground as the eat the ones that are starting to rot..and ferment.....and they are generally drunk, quite amusing watching them flying after!!

What`s it doing over here then.. ?

How did it get through our stringent immigration... ;):D

Did it appear when you were taking photos of your money?

Craig

You can be a right "Bitch" some times, Craig...

And after all the favours I have done you... :p:D

As said, Vespa Crabo the European hornet and the native hornet of the UK. Wonderful creatures, they should be protected (they are in Germany) as they do a lot of good.

The one to look out for in the UK is this one:

The Asian Hornet (Vespa Velutina) a serious predator of honey bees. It is very common in France and has wiped out a lot of bees. It seem inevitable it will arrive in the UK sooner or later. The identifying feature is the black thorax. If you brought a queen back hiding in your MH it could potentially do more harm than a truck load of illegal immigrants.

i get loads of these at my place in normandy. sting is no worse supposedly than a wasp and a bee sting is worse again. hornets are really docile creatures and fly with a purpose always trying to avoid you , not like annoying wasps. leave them alone and they will leave you alone , simples
