Hi Guys
Just wanted some advise, what security devices do you use on your expensive motorhomes when it
is parked on your drive, we have an alarm and tracker, what else should I invest in to keep the scum bags away.

JOE

ours has both tracker and alarm and is parked on our drive. I also have a camera that looks over the van and records as well as having real time access.

there are loads of other things you could add but...
As has been said ... IF they really want it it will be gone. but minimising the risk and the possibility of evidence and tracking is a great start.

A lot of us have fitted an Oxford patriot disc lock:

Clutch claw, alarmed and covered.

My cab deadlocks:

Vanbitz Strikeback plus with the Metatrack immobiliser. Even if they break into my house to get the key, they aren't going to start it.

A very awkward parking position that only I know how to manoeuvre out of without damaging the van plus at night one of our cars is between it and the way out ;-)

Ours has the factory fitted alarm, immobiliser and Tracker.

In addition we turn the driver’s seat and lock in position and fit a strap between the cab door arm rests to prevent them opening.

And, finally, we park our car immediately in front of it so it cannot be driven out without the car, which also has an alarm and immobiliser.

If they get through that lot I also have the telephone number of our Insurer. ;)

My van sits on our drive with walls on three sides, you can only physically access the drivers door, that is dead locked and the steering is turned hard the the left so it can’t roll forward without the f/n/s tyre hitting the wall as the steering lock is on.

My 4x4 sits in front of it and the gates are closed and locked, security lights and CCTV on.

If anyone enters the drive area, lights come on, 2 x 105 dB alarms sound and the CCTV sets off 2 alarms in the house.

The MotorHome stays in the Barn, where security is tighter.

2 Bulldog drive posts, and a cut-down old trailer A-Frame bolted to ground behind van which is hitch-locked onto tow-ball,
And yes, i have forgotten about it myself, !!
Joe

Although I have an alarm needed for the insurance I also fitted a 30 quid tracker d recently a patriot lock on the seat.
I take view as long as it doesn't get nicked just before I'm due to go away in it, if it does get nicked it's a good excuse to buy a new van.

In addition to above a Disklok is a good deterrent making sure blinds not completely closed so it can be seen.

its not good to leave self levellers down for long periods as the rams can get surface rust. Don’t forget if it is started the rams will retract anyway.

Disklok and ClutchClaw on the van and a post in the drive, beyond which is my DD.

The way I figure it:

You fit and use whatever security the insurers want - so you're insured

In addition, you fit & use whatever security devices that makes you feel comfortable, for your own peace of mind (there's plenty to choose from)

But remember, none of these will stop your van being nicked or broken into by a determined criminal

A few further observations:

As I've posted before, I can't find any statistics for the amount of thefts of or from motorhomes, so it's probably not a pandemic

Motorhome insurance is relatively cheap - from which I assume the risks are relatively low

Paranoia is easily generated by social media (as well as other forms of media)

My main method of security is not taking my Rolex watch with me when I'm on my holidays in my box on wheels, plus I rarely use/carry much cash - so even if/when I'm gassed, I won't lose too much 🙂

Alarm and tracker are a good start but it can’t hurt to have something visible as well. I have a large orange wheel lock, I don’t doubt it could be removed by cutting because nothing is 100% but it does no harm to make your motorhome look more difficult than the next one.

eddievanbitz Growler alarm and immobiliser. Additional deadlocks on doors. Parked on our drive with two cameras covering it and recording on the internet the moment any movement is detected. Wife's car parked in front of it.
