I have been wandering about the 3 month rule. Would you be able to go away fro 3 months, come back to Blighty for a week and then go for another 3 months? Is it 3 months in any one year? I have not seen any detail on this.
Nobody knows.... Perhaps we should have an acronym; just post KKY and we'll all know that 'nobody knows yet'.

There's those 2 little words again! "IF" & "MAY".
Lets hear some facts about WHAT has actually been agreed/decided upon instead of endless idle speculation.

The most expensive campsites that I have ever stayed on are in Europe

I love well balanced posts, you know the ones with a chip on each shoulder :D2

I can’t afford to stay on expensive campsites Eddie, I don’t own a business....;)

There will be a Deal , the EU will make sure of that , I wont bother you with reasons . All these "impediments" are as much so for EU as it is for us , and when you watch the flow of trucks at ports you can see where their interest lies . As for UK MoHo and caravans in Europe , having just spent two weeks driving about and staying on Aires even in the Mosel
I would consider a dense travel area , for tourism , the Brits aren't over in any big numbers , especially compared with NL reg vehicles. In a conversation with a couple on a substantial river cruiser, who hasbeen traveling within EU for just over 10yrs ,currently in Belgium he says a lot of the "regulars" and others , are not about in such numbers in last year or so ! .

The thing is that before the eu we hadn't pissed off the rest of Europe so it still doesn't mean it will be the same.
Even now I detect a coldness towards Brits in Europe and it isn't my imagination.

I thought it was bad in Spain at places but 3 days in France and I feel like I've 3 heads at some places.

Funny, innit,we haven’t found that at all.

Maybe your physical “presence” has something to do with it. You may be a gentle giant, but you’re a great big fella with a pony tail and tattoos and the middle classes of Europe may find that a little intimidating.........maybe.

And I’m not trying to insult you, btw, but my brother and I both stand over 6ft 3in and we sometimes get the odd “look”.

Having said that I might invest in an Isle of Man sticker for the van......they won’t know where the frigging hell that is!

The Government has confirmed that if there is ‘no deal’ then mutual recognition of driving licences between the UK and EU may end.

This would mean that UK drivers wishing to drive in Europe after 29 March 2019 would need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP):

  • A 1949 Convention IDP (Republic of Ireland, Spain, Malta, Cyprus), or
  • A1968 Convention IDP (all other EU countries, Norway and Switzerland)
It has been estimated that up to 7 million IDPs may be required in the first year if there's 'no deal'.

Whether there's a deal or not, the Government has decided that, from 1 February 2019:

  • IDPs will be issued by around 2,500 Post Offices (they're currently issued by 89)
  • The AA (and RAC) will no longer be permitted to issue IDPs
  • Mail order facilities for applying for an IDP will cease to exist

Great to see more post offices will issue, I wonder what the price will go up to?

Bit of déjà vu all over again Rodney, n'est-ce pas, innit ?

Yes it could well be that , it could also be because I'm travelling alone. My ex partner used to complain that I chatted to everyone when we were travelling. Certainly in the days of owning my vw's i often couldnt escape folk ....ive just not found people overly friendly on this trip ...off course there has been the exceptions.

But often you say hello or good morning and are completely ignored.

The language barrier in France doesn't help as I could speak some Spanish but I don't know any French other than bonjour and where are the dustbins lol

We have Manx plates. Always a good talking point. I am also able to disown the Brexit decision because we were not allowed a vote.

The Isle of man is not in the EU - so there is no way you could have voted to stay or leave! :)

There isn't a 3 month rule. That is only the theoretical maximum amount for an EU citizen to be in another EU state without registering as a resident; or automatically becoming one.
If the UK leaves then access to the EU would be under the Schengen visa scheme limiting you to 90 day cumulatively in any 6 month period. If you've done 90 days then you are out for a six month period.

There's always some French person somewhere who hates the English, regardless. It goes way back to when Aquitaine belonged to the English King. I once had to retreat from a punch up offered by a French drunk over what happened to Joan of Arc. Next, there's those who still resent us for carpet bombing many French towns and cities in WW2, killing their relatives. Lamb wars, too. Now cockle fishing. The grievance list is a long one, and for some idiots never stops growing.

Most French people still love us at least a little bit, and love our tourist money even more. :)

Don't worry. The Parisians are rude to everyone. The rural French paysans can be even more insular than the Brits. My French granny was not fully accepted as one of them by her Charentais neighbours even after she had lived in their village for over 20 years and had been born in another village only a few miles distant so was able to speak their argot fluently. Bizarre.

Given the drop in the value of the pound and the continued uncertainty I bought our new German built van last week. A year earlier than planned and off a dealers forecourt instead of made to order which is what I had hoped to do, but the risk was just to high.

Indeed looking at the 2019 Hymer price lists I picked up in Dusseldorf which are in euros and the sterling 2018 price list I would suggest that people are going to be in for a nasty shock at the NEC if they're after EU built vans, parity between currencies has already passed.

How this will affect the UK built vans assembled on Sevel chassis - well who knows?
