Personal Plates

When we saw T12NCA for £220 then we thought why not, and its surprised us how many people knew the plate from our recent tour.
However one aspect people forget is that the value of many personalised numbers increases annually far above the measly 1.25% that the "top" performing ISA savings accounts can manage. Therefore some of them are an astute financial investment and there will always be a fool looking to be parted from his or her money..........................

We have 4 plates all costing £299 and the best one spells my surname

I once bought L7 ??? (my initials) for about £300 to put on the Westfield kit car I built .... let it go with the car.
I have had ??? XAA (eX Alcoholics Anon) for about ten years ... since falling off the waggon;)
Can't remember exactly how much I paid , but probably too much.

personally would not have used that plate , over 20 years of sobriety here (y)

I don't get the aged thing. Most folks who are paying attention to the plate will know how old the vehicle is anyway. As for phalic symbol, perhaps for some but not for all. I have had my plate (birthday + 3 initials) for 15 years but it's currently on retention and I will be putting it on my new van. So, certainly not an age related thing; I have it and want to use it and it only cost £189 + VAT. Looked at M357 EVE when I was looking to buy an M3, £5K and I thought it was a bargain. However, I bought a Porsche instead, put my own plate on it then sold it 3 months later because t055ers kept scratching it. Last straw was when I took my wife out for dinner during her "good Friday"( 5 days before next chemo session) and came back to a totally wrecked bonnet Oh Please!. Wife was devastated so I swapped it next day for a new Q5, no private plate, never had an issue but so glad I didn't spend £5K. Don't expect an issue with the MoHo, hopefully. So, I am in the if you want one, get one camp. If you don't then fine each to their own and all that.

All the Oxford Bus Company buses have OXF registrations!.. I remember when the GLC had its own cars with appropriate reg number too...

I bought mine as an investment after watching Regtransfer web site and seeing values go up. When I had a Jag I looked at B16 CAT, and watched its value rise astronomically so thought it was worth doing.

thats jogged my memory a mate of mine had an austin 3litre the last land crab shape and that had a glc plate on it would have been late 70s or early 80s about the time it was disbanded

I have S11MYR on a dethleffs, anyone interested? Came with the van.

This morning I saw the white Bentley of Tony Stewart, chairman of Rotherham United Footbal club, RUF 1. If you didn't know of his connection you might be a bit wary of him.
When I was in business I had a non-age specific number because we would get comments along the lines, "he's bought a new car again, must be ripping us off".
BTW people don't buy or own their cherished number, they pay for the right to use it. The DVLA (or whoever it is nowadays) have the ultimate sanction of withdrawing that right if they deem it necessary.

S44JWA on my car and S444JWA on my MH. The car plate started as a joke for my late wife as it was the closest I could get to her and my initials; after her death I found the MH plate was free and so...... I know they are vanity plates but at least I can remember them and the vehicles are more "mine" - and the "joke" lives on.

Ron bought me an old SLK for our 20th anniversary, and J19 GLW to go on it. I loved it as it was such a romantic thought. Now thinking of selling the Merc as moving from caravan to motorhome has been a rather expensive enterprise! Will definitely move the plate onto the MoHo, so all those who have said they don't like personalised plates or think they are s sign of pretentiousness/snobbery/status etc please don't hold it against me! I just want to remember the romance!

We bought
YOO 6
HOO
It works on the square plates on the RV . We bought on impulse after a drinkies, won't keep it though .

Neighbour bought a Morris Ital ???? With the plate OBO 110X. Put on his Merc (scrapped the Ital - thankfully)

Then arranged as O BOIIOX.
About £40k he recons.

Just by MikeandCarolyns house is a great plate I would love for MoHo
S5 FUN.

Trikeman.

I sold my first one , which was on a workmates unused moped, to carmarks of Hull in the early 70's. VAN 11 for £50 .
Lot of money for an apprentice.
Bought a Rover in late 70's that came with 1993AC on it. Should have taken it off & sold on but didn't.
First MH had 949 HLA on it. Wasn't private plate , just old .:p
Bought one for myself around 1990. Initials +427, that being the cubic capacity of a corvette ! Cost £1280 . Sold it to a dealer when we came here.
Wife had one & to start with liked it. Then realised that it made you easily recognisable/remembered & I had to get rid of it.

I have SM10NZE ( Simonize ? ) if anyone is interested ?

Bought my name and age on a plate RoR733 back in 1987 for £80.00 considered selling it last year as I hardly ever drive the car anymore and was offered £3000.00 but kids and wife talked me into keeping it.
Good investment. (y)
Phallic symbol  dont need one ;)
Private reg threads always bring out a few spiteful comments not sure if its jealousy or what.:Eeek:
If you got it flaunt it eh!! :moon2:

Got 'has freedom' the year I retired it seemed appropriate at the time. The Hobby is now the third proud bearer of HA5 3DOM. With the year date of 2003 it does not make anyone jealous who does not know motorhomes they just ask 'How do you keep it looking so good?'

if i could i'd have FEK 1T last seen on a car in settle

My missus, Penny, is a teacher so was gonna buy her PEN 70P.

She hated the idea so glad I didn't surprise her.

I have W5NDA bought as a present for my late wife, Wanda - it's on my car as my camper is too old to take it

If I ever get a newer MH I would put it on that - either way I will never sell it

We have 147 JNY on our motorhome. It originally came off an old Morris ambulance that was used as a motorhome by my wifes family many many moons ago.

DC, detective constable, 57 irrelevant, JEZ, his short name.

Had to have this, just missed L4RBY, been known as Larby since I was a school kid. See Funster name.
Being on a now rare Cavalier, makes the whole thing distinctive. Had been in Cornwall a few hours on holiday, got call on mobile to say I had been spotted in Newquay !!!
