Increased security, this was posted by Mark White on Overlanding Morocco.

Following the recent events, I have received reports that the police are moving people on from some Wildcamp spots to places of ‘safety’

In both cases the camp location has been a free camping spot rather than a remote wild camp. Police have been very polite and escorted the people in question to a Service station.

Increased security concerns for tourists is too be expected at the moment. The Moroccan authorities have long recognised the importance of the tourist industry.

This is NOT a ban on Wildcamping

Snaking my way down Spain and in a spectacular Aire at Palencia and at last the sun has come out. For the last 3 days it's been fog, fog, fog and freezing. Plan to spend two night here and then snake down to Jerez and spend a day there before arriving at Algecerias then crossing over.

I'll bet this is around the Atlas Mountains Marc where a lot of tourists hike and camp.

Well theres the scooter done. I checked with bennets ( my existing insurer) and confirmed that they still don't do it so thanks to someones recommendation on here @SUGGY I think, I called LV and renewed with them £64 and added 2 months Green Card for £10. Brilliant, I paid Bennets £84 last year.

Just waiting for an answer of Saga for the Motorhome now, It was sounding like I'm going to have to pay for it this time:(.

Hoping to be there end of Jan

I’ve just paid Comfort £221 for 10 weeks cover. Which was a lot cheaper than the quote last week. :)

Going over about the 17th, SWMBO wants to spend Sunday afternoon the 13th, on Cabopino beach at Andys Bar, listening to the music and eating Squid, I might eat the squid and then go and watch the football :)

Hi there - new on here, so apologies if this is not how its done!
Question - did you get your Greencard sorted? My current insurer won't issue a Greencard for Morocco and I've spoken to 8 companies today (including Safeguard, Scenic, Caravan Guard and Clubcare) and NON of them will issue a Greencard now even if I move my policy to them. The only people who have offered any cover are HIC and that is just 3rd party. I'm at a loss! I thought it would be easy and we're hoping to go there late Jan/early Feb... All the companies say to buy a Greencard at the border, but I can't find any info about how easy that is/how much it costs... am travelling with toddler twins so need to make things straightforward.. any help appreciated.

And for anyone else who's considering it for the first time -
Assuming I can get the Green Card situation sorted we plan to cross from Algeciras towards the end of January 2019. Be happy to have anyone tag along if they wished. Not a tour though I'm sure someone will "organise" a Meet somewhere (Tafraoute?).

We are insured with Comfort, they give green cards and charge by the week. You can have green cover for upto 90 days a year, as some other countries require a green card.

Well @Lucy Holburn and @TerryL and other interested parties Saga is the one again. Ive just renewed and my renewal date is while we will be in Morocco. No problem, premium for the year is £325 ( ok I have got a lot of NCD and we re in a good post code) and the green card is £25 total for 2 months bridging the two policies.

Can I suggest those having issues with Green Cards have a chat with Saga, apologies if you are not old enough.

Warmth at last! Now sitting in Jerez and will arrive at Algecerias tomorrow. Will visit Carlos tomorrow and get tickets and then decide when to cross, maybe Sunday or Monday ish?

Your comment around "deciding" when to cross has brought this question up and maybe you or other funsters can advise.
Our plan is to drive from Calais through France and Spain to a ferry and then across to Morocco in mid to late February. I called my insurance company today(Comfort) to see what the additional cost would be. They said l would need to give them dates of my intended crossing to Morocco and for how long. I said we hadn't fixed an exact date for said crossing or for how long. When pushed l "offered" a two week period in Feb. She then advised me that my documents would have to be posted to my UK address before l leave and that would take two weeks from my initial application. Does this sound correct and or is there an alternative?
Advice is most welcome.

Comfort will email, so you can print it on green paper, and they send out the original first class on the day. It may be easier giving them a four week slot, and you can decide when to go and return. If you decide to stay longer just call them, and get them to email you a new green card.
Ok you have to pay an extra £20 admin charge, but it’s peanuts in the overall holiday.

We are currently on our way south now, intending a few weeks in Spain then crossing end of January.

We're also with Comfort. You'll need to give them the dates you want cover for, I arranged for eight weeks, of course you don't need to travel exactly on those dates, just between them. The paperwork comes out 1st class post to your home address (mine arrived the following day) - I wasn't offered an email and unless you know of someone who has I'd be a bit cautious. Get it done before you leave home.

However when you said two weeks in Morocco is that your actual intention? IMO that would be a complete waste of time and money, you cannot hope to see anything in that time even if you do stay in the northern half of the country. You need an absolute minimum of 4 weeks, 6 is better and 8 will give you the best chance of seeing the best the country can offer. Of course you may have time restraints but really 2 weeks, again IMO, is useless.
