I think they've now dropped that requirement - the term Feel at Home isn't used by them any more. The limit now seems to be 9GB.

I've been using a Vodafone sim on a rolling monthly contract for much of my current trip. Costs are about £20 a month for 10 Gb.

I couldn't initially get it to work in France but manually selecting Orange was the trick. In Italy it connected very reliably. In both countries it also used a 4G connection, which the Three card I also used when the Vodafone card ran out of data, never did - 3G all the time.

The disadvantage of the Vodafone card, as I discovered, is the very limited options for buying additional data in month. This is a ploy to get you to sign up for 12 months I think. :)

Of course, if you use minimal data this solution may not fit but they have cheaper offers with less 'giggle bites' .

I think there's a bit of confusion going on ...
We just renewed with three and got it for £9 a month for 12gb abroad

Mymemory usually only charge around £23 for 12gb over 12 months

But a big difference between £108 and £23-£29.
The OP is talking about a preloaded data sim card with 12gb data on that lasts a year for a single payment, not a monthly contract sim.

Complete novice to all of this but just borrowed a friends mifi, really impressed but don't want to enter into an expensive contract when I will only be using it for a couple of months of the year. Am I right in saying that I could buy a mifi or mobile router and get a one off sim card to fit it say with 12gb of data? Then do I just top that up on a pay as you go means? If so what would be the price to top up?

I'ts cheaper to actually buy another sim when the first one runs out rather than top up as the top-up rates work out quite a bit more expensive.

Three PAYG 12G data sim are now throttled back to 9G per month. If your going to europe for more than a month the best deal is with Vodafone on a rolling monthly contract. Beats 3 hands down, at this moment in time.

Sorry for hi jacking the thread, know it can be annoying but didn't want to start a fresh forum topic when all of the experts were on this thread. Thanks to all for great info.

You can currently get 15G for £20.00 per month on a rolling 30 day contract or 30G for £25.00
