I had been following a thread on a German forum about black tank treatment and a product called Ammovit was the centre of debate. Here is a link to the product on Amazon Germany.
Amazon product ASIN B06XQ5373R
I bought a kilo and thought I would give it a go. I had a brand new 300 litre tank only used once so a good starting point. The recommended dose by users is 2 tablespoons. I have just completed my 3rd dump of the tank and I am amazed by the results. The level of smell has reduced considerably and the reports suggest that longer term use will deliver a virtually odourless dump. The main immediate benefit has been a complete disintegrating of all solid material. Although we have a macerating toilet there was still residual solids and paper residue in the outflow on evacuation previously. Nothing now. The liquid changes to a black dark grey.

Interestingly several posts have been from cassette users and they have reported an improvement in the emptying process if it has been left for a couple of days or so.

I have searched to find it in the UK without success but ordering from Germany just adds a larger delivery cost. Based on reports and my use I suspect that a kilo will last me 2-3 months which is the normal time frame of our trips.

That’s really interesting Michael. We pick up our new Moho next week from Belgium and it has a black tank which we haven’t experienced before. After spending 3 months in Greece and getting used to putting toilet paper in a bin, we’ve decided to continue this habit.
Thanks for the link, I’ll look into it.
May I ask when you are away how easy is it to find somewhere suitable to dump? I believe our system is a macerating system but gravity empty not pumped (Hymer).

The subject of dumping a black tank has been discussed on here before, in depth. You can dump it wherever you dump your grey! They both go into the sewer. So in answer to your question it is easy.
If you have a macerating toilet it reduces the waste to a slurry on its way to the tank. At a dump it is not particularly noticeable and often you will find that the grey smells more pungent than the black. However I have found that Ammovit turns the slurry into a liquid. I am led to believe that it helps to keep the tank clean too.
Over time we have found that a 2 ply toilet paper recommended for vacuum toilets provides the best of practical use and eradication in the macerating process.

is this a repurposing of an agri product , eg slurry digester booster , so needing a level of tank size to give enough time to work effectively , as black tanks are by design only emptied over a long period due to size . whereas cassettes are frequent emptying , so not that cost effective ?

To be honest I dont know about its design purpose other than that on the link I originally posted, however the forum I read about it on has some people using cassettes albeit without any feedback that I have seen. As I have stated I have a friend testing it in his cassette and he empties circa 3-4 days, he is on Mikkis at the moment, we escaped so I await an email from him. To be clear I have no commercial involvement whatsoever, I am just passing on some inteligence gleaned elsewhere which has led me to test it with what I consider great success. If you have cassettes do not buy it until I can provide some relevant experience for consideration.

Was very interest when this thread popped up and tried to find more info on the produce, but it does seem at present to be confined pretty well to Germany.
Re treating cassettes with Ammovit, I found this video on youTube and this couple tested Ammovit in their cassette and although I don't speak Germany, I get the gist that he found it gave pong free results.
Shipping rates quoted to the UK are ridiculous, so I'll ask a friend I have in Germany to bring some over with him on his next visit to try.

Start the video at 14.25 minutes for their full test of Ammovit or skip to 17.35 minutes for his pong test.

Yes shipping equals the product cost. However in the scheme of things even at what is double the cost the volumes used are so small that I would think that in comparison to the specialist treatments like Aquakem the cost would be less per dose. However that's just a guess.

Thanks Sallylillian, I’ll try some of this, biggest issue I have is finding dumping points in England, as you say no issue in Europe, I’ve got to admit the grey sometimes smells worse after being stored for a while.
Cheers

I keep misreading the product name as "Amvomit"

Pretty sure this was suggested to me for grey tanks as well.

Maybe but for me it would have to go down a sink drain as I have no grey tank inspection cap that is readily accessible so I would have to think on that. Also usage would be much higher.

It's easily available in the UK if you know what to look for...

It's 97% FeSo4 so it's basically Ferrous Sulphate, there's a small (3%) of Calcium Carbonate (CaCo3) which is probably used in it's other applications in water purification or Po4 (phosphate) removal.

I'd suggest someone like APC Pure, it's where i buy most of my lab grade chemicals from.

It should be pretty cheap to buy Ferrous Sulphate in the UK

What does it do to septic tanks?

How much spare payload have you got, can you squeeze in 5Kg if you come across it, pretty please. :h:
Unfortunately I’m in a PVC and I’ve already filled all spare nooks and crannies with these for my daughter-in-law !

sallylillian have a 300 litre black waste tank? How long does that last you??
Depends on where we eat out. No seriously it could last circa 4 weeks, however I also have a transfer pump from the grey tank (also 300 litrs) so I can move excess grey to the black tank and extend our need to dump overall. For example we lasted a week including both of us showering twice a day and 7 washing machine loads by shifting some grey to the black. We only have 450 litres of FW so had to top that off.
