Is it still possible to pick up a green card/insurance at the border? I'm very tempted to visit in January but had a lot of hoops to jump through with (ohwahtabloody) SAGA last year to get a green card and I don't think I could stand to go through it all again.

We are thinking of Morocco in 2018. Have been a few times on motorcycle trips, but would be the first time in Motorhome. If you can add us to the list for any information.
Interested to see the cost of an open return is around 200€ for a Van.

Yes, you can buy insurance as you enter Morocco - at Tangier-Med it's the last building after you leave the Customs/Immigration area, past the bureaux de change. I believe there are similar places at the other entry points. It's quite expensive and of course have no idea if it's worth the paper it's printed on but I suppose it keeps you legal.

Ha ha… thank you. When you say 'quite expensive' - would you be able to give me a ball park figure?

Without ploughing through last years Morocco threads I believe one of our mini-group paid about €185, that was for 3 months I think. Third party only.

As @TerryL has yet to respond I'm sure he wont object to me providing you with a ball park figure.
You will be looking at a minimum of 300 €. Far better to go down the Green card route which will be at least 10 times cheaper and more comprehensive too.

LOL! Terry there goes my reputation for accuracy and provision of good information. I was certain that some members stated 300€ when we crossed in 2016. I must have had a senior moment........again. Not to worry, someone will post in the near future what then going rate is for 2018. All the best.

Just lost 45 minutes of my life on the phone to SAGA. After three directed calls and a chat to the underwriter, a log made about my trip start ad end dates and every country I might be going through and what ports I'm travelling from and to and my hat and inside leg measurement….

They're going to ring me back within 72 hours with their decision. Possibly. I'm never quite sure I believe them when they say they're going to ring back. Watch this space…

Really can't understand SAGAs problem, either they will issue a Green Card or will not. You can't be the first one to ask. In fairness I thought SAGA was one of the insurance agents who did not do them so perhaps they're talking to their underwriters? Or more likely you're talking to someone who has no idea what you are talking about.

We're planning a trip to Morocco this December.
There are several dimensions to our situation that are out of the norm - perhaps someone here might have some insights.

1) We are Canadian. We have a 2001 Hymer B654 with NL plates and a Dutch friend of mine as the registered owner. I always carry a "Vehicle Usage Agreement " signed by him. Is that sufficient for Moroccan authorities to bring the Hymer in?
2) I will drive over solo and pick up my wife at Casablanca airport. My wife will re-enter the EU with me, flying back from Lisbon. I plan to get my ferry tickets from Carlos. So can my name only be written in going over & both of us coming back?
3) Has anyone ever picked up someone at CMN (Casablanca airport) in a motorhome? Where did you park?
4) I will have our standard poodle with me. His rabies is the 3 year type. Any issues getting into Morocco? - he will not have had a vaccination in the 12 months prior, since he's not due until October 2018. (I'm covered returning to the EU, titres test in hand!).
5) I was thinking I might enter via Ceuta (although I'd prefer Tangiers Med); if I have complications, I'd still be in the EU and could handle them more easily (and without ferrying back to Algeciras!). Any comments?

This is the forth green card I've applied for from them and it's always been a hassle. This time the 'ports travelled from and to' question was a new one. The first operator I spoke to told me that I didn't need a Green card for Morocco and I almost had to have a fight with her before she agreed to ask her supervisor and yes, of course, I need a Green card for Morocco. She referred me to her supervisor who eventually referred me to their underwriters but not even she could make a decision and she has to refer it to the underwriters' underwriters - (I promise I'm not making this up) but the underwriters' underwriter was shut and she can't speak to them until tomorrow and she advised that they will take up to 72 hours to make their decision. I was exhausted at the end of it. It's always a bloody saga with SAGA.

1/ You'll possibly need a visa to enter Morocco, you should check that out. As for the "Vehicle Useage Agreement", get a translation into French. Might raise a few eyebrows but don't think it'll be a problem.
2/ Shouldn't think that will be a problem, I'm sure the ladies in Carlos' office can sort that for you. You might email them beforehand though TICKET.GUTIERREZ@telefonica.net Don't forget to tell them you belong to MotorhomeFun for your discount.
3/ Sorry. no idea - check their website for parking?
4/ Never been checked, either into or out of Morocco, with our Westie and don't know of anyone who has. You only need the titres test paperwork for getting back into the EU (and worming for the UK of course).

Sorry I can't be more positive but, as you say, your situation is a little different from the norm.

Last time, Comfort just identified me then said "off to Morocco again?" and asked for how long I needed it. Payment card details took 30 seconds, in the post that night.
Like I said, you're dealing with someone who has no idea; that's the problem with the bigger organisations. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thinks: "Ports Travelled" is a new one on me too, anyone else have observations about that or is it new?

saga were always very easy to get a green card . i was with them for years . mind they decided not to insure fifth wheelers so i changed but they were great. another one was safeguard . they were easy as well.
years ago in the 70,s i used to use coop . they were ok. i also used norwich union car club . again used then for years .
stopped visiting morocco in 2012 it had changed too much . but untrill then never had a problem . in 1998 i got border insurance as we cancelled uk insurance as we left europe we were on an african safari not expecting to return for a few years . border insurance then was about 30 pounds for a month . we went further on and just got insurance as and when we needed it . mauritainia never had any .senegal border ins , gambia again border . south senegal showed the north senegal ins . etc .
on return telephone and off we go back to uk. had the policey sent to gib as poste restante .
safe guard never actually gave a green card just had a bit in arabic explaining we were covered . always caused a fuss as it was white . the paper.

It will be great to see you all. Booking done day before crossing. Green card for mh insurance is needed. Health/travel insurance a must.

We'll be in Andalucia from December so interested in joining up if we can get over - personal family issues may dictate othrwise. However, we are unable to obtain any sort of health insurance because we tour away from the uk for over 6 months at a time. Any tips? Can Carlos arrange a trip specific policy for us?
Thks

@JackieP can I be cheeky and ask why do you insure with Saga if they are such a pain to deal with?

Just wondered :)

Not cheeky at all. Happy to answer anything anytime.

The old story…been with them for years..on direct debit and the renewal rolls around and I just carry on paying. The only time I have to contact them is when I need a Green card or on two occasions when I needed breakdown assistance. I also have the added issue of being domiciled in the IOM and the IOM is not in the UK and SAGA are one of the few insurers who provide cover to the Island. It doesn't seem worth going elsewhere and going through all that hassle of new insurers. Maybe I should? I thought they were all the same but maybe not.

You've given me something to think about. Thank you.

Thanks Terry -
1)No visa needed for Canadians; the French translation is a great idea - the form likely is available in French if I want it.
2) do I need to print some sort of "yellow card" to ask for the discount at Carlos'?
3)I checked their website a month ago - I think the 2 main parking lots won't accommodate a Hymer, but I think there's another lot somewhere for larger vehicles. It's not terribly clear. Additionally it seems I can't enter the airport without a ticket, so I don't think I can wait for her at the gate exit.
4) that's what I've read also - I think I'm fine on the dog front.

Thanks.
However, Staysure have told us categorically that as we had been away from the uk for more than 6 months, they would not renew the initial policy that I had taken out with them when we left on our first trip. All other so-called long term insurance "specialists", likewise punished us for having the temerity of actually staying away for more than 6 months and then daring to do it again the following year.
Off my soap-box now. Sorry.
Hopefully, we will still be coming over some time in the new year and meet up with fellow funsters.
All the best.

No, just ask for it - all Funsters do since I set it up with him couple of years ago and as far as I am aware nobody has been refused.

Enjoy - we probably won't be able to go in 2018 due family commitments.
