I thought this would be obvious in parking with the sunny side away from the Fridge/freezer but then there is the courtesy of not parking door to door with your neighbour. Another thread just pointed out the need to avoid having full sun on the front non-double glazed windows.
So it looks as if I should park with the back of the van in the sun.

Depends on the time of year, some times you will be glad of the sun on the windscreen sometimes sun by your door but other times might want shade by the door.

I park whichever way round suits me with regard to the view. Never consider the fridge.
Maybe avoid door to door on a crowded aire, but on a site pitch...........?

Unless you are going to be parked up for a long period l don't think that it would matter which direction you parked so long as it wasn't door to door?

August type weather in Spain we park with the Habitation door facing away from the midday sun but not anywhere else.

We like if possible to have the door facing the evening sun. :)

If there is a slight slope I park facing up it.. apart from that.. aint fussed..
BUT !!!
Woman is a sodding nightmare...
The amount of times we have plotted up only for her to want the van round a different way is unbelievable
No rhyme or reason... sometimes the sun is wrong, sometimes the view, sometimes it is dog related... I have learned there is no point in arguing.. all I can do is say a big sorry to rally marshals !

You can always put the silver screens up to reduce heat or gain privacy from prying eyes and park whichever way suits you best

I'll park whichever way gives me the best outlook. If the sun is too bright I'll put the silver screens on, in fact I will anyway and fold them down day during the day when I want the light. Don't quite get the "not door to door" thing. Do people really think I am going to spend whatever time I spend on the pitch watching them going in and out of their van? And anyway, there are times when no matter which way I was to park, I would be facing somebody's door. So not really a consideration as far as I am concerned.

I park so that my generator, which I use at the front of the van, will be heard by as many as possible :)

Seriously, the only time even think about which way to park, is if I have to load/unload a motorbike

Don’t take life (or motorhoming) too seriously, no-one gets out alive !

I park on the upside so my grey waste runs away from me.:D
I would park so it runs under the van and nobody sees it
Usually though I park with rear to the south so the solar panel will get more sun (it props up) and we get to see the sunset.

At the moment I"m parked facing open countryside, I could turn around and face a shipping container.

The fridge side not facing the sun is useful in hot weather.

Not parking directly under a tree branch, as well. Have had a branch fall onto the roof in a storm. Doesn't half wake you up suddenly. Then, the probability that several albatrosses with gastric problems will roost right above you.

I take it the magazine for the German equivalent of Caravan and Motorhome Club is not called 'Mein Kampfer'

What are people’s problems with parking door to door, my door is on the wrong side and I have no problems with parking door to door.
Makes for better conversation.

Doesn't matter ... the outer screen cover blanks everything except for when the upper part is folded down. Must be near level or 'er indoors swears she is slipping out of the bed ...... good grief !!!

Most people don't mind but the CMC sometimes, no mostly, don't like it even when the next van is the friends you are travelling with

....and then there is a tree with sap dripping all over the van (very hard to get off). Don't forget the best angle to have the satellite dish miss the big trees. It may be best not to stop!

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
Genny should always be placed on the roof, then the sound will carry over everyones heads.

As we have a "U" shaped lounge the view is all important, never given the sun on the same side as the van a moments thought, just roll out the awning and we have instant shade.
