Just come out of the Vodafhone shop in Corby where I was discussing the option of getting a data sim card for my MiFI at £30.00 for 50 GB on a monthly rolling contract and then cancelling after two months in Europe to get the maximum 3 months allowance before their fair play usage kicked in and the guy behind the counter said why not get the sim card with unlimited downloads for £32.00 on a monthly rolling contract and then just stick it in your MiFi. It will work in both phones and Mifi's. That's an unbelievable deal. (y)

Will they give you unlimited in Europe though? With Three I am unlimited but "limited" to, from memory 20gb in Europe

I think the "unlimited" deals with Vodafone have the 25GB roaming cap. If you have a specified data limit like say 50GB then you get the full amount roaming. Thats how I understood it anyway.

OK! Guy in the shop said if your looking to stream films abroad there is no restriction but to be honest I never looked into a roaming cap. Will ask next time i'm in there.

I think so Eddie but not 100% certain. I'll get back to you as I'm going to have a chat with their online support teams. Watch this space.

Fair usage policy
All our Unlimited plans include a fair usage policy – so when you use your mobile data abroad in our Roam-free and Roam-further destinations, you’ll have a maximum 25GB of data per month. If you reach this 25GB data limit, you’ll have two options to get more data: either wait for your monthly plan to refresh, or buy additional roaming data. We’ll notify you by text message when you’ve used 80% of your data allowance, and again when you’ve used 100%, followed by options to buy more data. Additional data can be bought by text message at a cost of £3.95 for 1GB or £19.75 for 5GB.

PhilandMena, be aware that Vodafone have introduced 3 types of unlimited data SIM-only contracts. These are called Lite, Unlimited, and Max. The cheapest (Lite) is throttled at a maximum download speed of 2 MB/s (useless for any video streaming), the Unlimited is restricted to 10 MB/s (great for most use, including standard definition TV streaming) and the Max which is not throttled and gives the fastest speed available (whatever that may mean in practice). They are priced accordingly, BUT in all cases are restricted to a maximum data usage limit of 25 GBytes per month when roaming, The pricing also is cheaper on 18-month contracts rather than 12. It is only on fixed data limited contracts that there is no restriction currently placed on roaming in the EU by Vodafone (whatever the salesman in the shop may say..... it is quite clear in the on-line Terms and Conditions on the Vodafone website). It seems that there is only one exception to this.... Vodafone's 5G GigaCube...... not cheap at £50 upfront for the upmarket Huawei unit and £50 a month on an 18-month contract for unlimited and unthrottled data, including whilst roaming in the EU. At this price it probably only becomes viable if it also replaces any landline broadband and telephone when at home - using a mobile-phone with unlimited calls for all voice needs (but you probably have this already).

The Vodafone offer at £32 a month being offered to PhilandMena compares unfavourably in price to the same Vodafone deal being currently offered on-line by Mobiles.co.uk (a subsidiary of Dixons/Carphone PLC). On 18-month Vodafone contracts they will set-up service for the unlimited data/text/voice SIM-only contracts at monthly costs as low as £14 pm (Lite), £15 (10 MB/s), and £18 (Max). There is no upfront charge, your contract and monthly payments are directly with Vodafone, the lower charge is recovered by cashback (the cheapest by periodic redemption, the easier alternative by a lump sum cashback paid 38 days after starting the contract). I can confirm that when I first did this 18 months ago, I got the cashback without any hassle. Recently I have obtained a SIM-only contract for Mrs M on the same basis.

Details of the Mobiles.co.uk deals can be found at......

https://www.mobiles.co.uk/vodafone-sim-only-deals

(Similar deals are available with other network providers.)

So far as I can tell, the GigaCube contract mentioned above can only be obtained directly from Vodafone.

I was sceptical about there being no data limit restriction with the unlimited 5G GigaCube. This is a transcript of my "Chat" with Vodafone yesterday...…..

Your Chat Transcript
The following is a record of your online chat with Vodafone today
Rinan : Thanks for choosing to chat with us. An agent will be with you shortly
Rinan : Hello, you're chatting with Rinan your Vodafone online sales specialist.
Brian : Hi Rinan. Interested in the Gigcube unlimited data deal. I wish to use this at home and take it in our Motorhome when on holiday. If I do this, will it work when roaming in Europe and is there a data limit?
Brian : Hello. Are you still with me?
Rinan : Yes I am here
Rinan : Yes you can use at your home plus while roaming in EU because plan comes with 48 roam free destinations.
Rinan : There is no any data limit, it's true unlimited data plan. :-)
Brian : On most of your plans there is a 25 GByte data limit when roaming. Does this apply to this offer?
Rinan : It won't apply on gigacube device.
Brian : Just checking again. Is there no 25 GByte monthly limit on roaming. There is on all of your unlimited data SIMs in smartphones.
Rinan : There is no limitations for data limit on GIgacube plan.
Brian : Thank you. Bye

I am seriously thinking about moving to the GIgaCube contract when my current 100 GByte Vodafone deal expires in March and would be most grateful for details of any experience others may have had with this.

Very interesting "Chat" transcript PhilandMena . If the advice you have been given is not correct, at least you have grounds for claiming a refund. Will be really interested to learn if you have no restriction in practice.

Now back with customer service seeking clarification. It does sound too good to be true doesn't it.

OK Customer services have now confirmed the guy in the Corby shop and the online agent are both wrong. There is a 25 GB roaming limit. So, looks like I will be using there data sim card again which I used the last time and was faultless for 3 months. Thanks for the corrections.

OK! Guy in the shop said if your looking to stream films abroad there is no restriction but to be honest I never looked into a roaming cap. Will ask next time i'm in there.
I was told that Vodaphone unlimited data deals are restricted to 25 gb a month when in Europe..Limited data,,ie 100 gb a month are not restricted..BUSBY

I discovered via a Currys advert that Vodafone are offering a similar 50GB data only SIM deal but bundled with a small cheap Mifi. This comes with a one off cost of £30 if arranged on a 30 day rolling contract basis, but I mention because at the moment they are offering 110GB data p.m. in their “winter sale”.

Here is the link
https://www.vodafone.co.uk/mobile-b...obile-wifi/vodafone/r218-mobile-wi-fi-hotspot

I have not fully investigated but I assume that the t&c’s are the same as the 50Gb for £30 p.m. SIM only deal referred to above and all data can be used whilst roaming.

I'm with Three
and have just gone over to a sim only Deal - £20 a month but first 6 months is £10
for that I get unlimited calls ,texts and data - - - they allow you to WiFi tether in Europe too the offer is still on as we have been into shop today

Up to now I have not been restricted by their "Fair Usage " policy which is supposed to be 25GB the same as all the other UK operators

I know of others who have not been restricted by 3s fair use policy, I myself was thinking of trying them. Bye the way I think you will find their fair use policy is 19 GB a month, but who cares if they are ignoring your usage. Best Wishes Tony

I was wrong it’s 20GB per month, but found this fair use policy on their site

n our Go Roam in Europe destinations, you can use up to 20GB of your data allowance at no extra cost. Use over this fair use limit, is subject to a surcharge. There are no fair use limits for calls made or texts sent within our Go Roam in Europe destinations.

If you're in a Go Roam Around the World destination:

• If you have a data allowance greater than 12GB, you can use up to this amount of data a month at no extra cost. Data use above this will not be allowed.
• If you have unlimited texts you can send up to 5000 texts back to the UK (landline and mobile numbers) per month.
• If you have 3000 or more minutes included in your allowance you can use up to 3000 minutes on calls back to the UK.

Dont know about you good people, but personality I think what you have paid for you should be able to use especially in the EU. Best Wishes Tony

It really is time that Vodafone cleaned up their act.
I have had the same discussions with their online advisors and the bottom line is they tell lies.
If they are going to advise then they should have the decency to know their product and it’s limitations.
I have now changed to fixed data contract instead of unlimited with them as that is the only way to use over 25gb per month at a sensible rate.

Not quite. There are some other options and on top of these the occasional specials deals that come out. This looks like a great deal and I think there would e no restriction if put in the motorhome and used in the E.U. 48 qualifying countries are included.

Just been told by Vodafone this device is for the UK only and is designed for places that do not have a phone line service. More misleading information.

terms and conditions from Vodaphone site

GigaCube and your GigaCube plan are not eligible for international roaming, and any data can only be used on Vodafone’s UK network.

Thanks! I think I just said that but always good to get confirmation. Pity Vodafhone staff don't know there own T&C.

Three are useless in Europe. Very poor connections and download speeds. Vodafhone on the other hand are brilliant.

Brilliant at telling porkies me thinks - btw we are both with Vodaphone for mobiles and the reception where we live is worse than sh1te, despite the shop staff selling us a gizmo at £75 to plug into a mains socket and connected to our BT router. Still sh1te on my I phone 8, marginally better on Lyndas I phone 5.

If ever there was a dire need for stringent regulation, then mobile phone/internet providers should be made to provide a transparent service, instead of us all having to wade through minefields of dross designed solely to extort more revenue from Joe Public. :swear:

I currently touring Ireland and have a UK sim with the fair usage of 19gb in Eire, so I bought a local sim from eir. its 20 euro per month, pay as you go "all you want data" with fair usage of 80gb per month in Eire. later this year I'll be in Spain/Portugal for 8 months & aim to get a local sim

Is there any data sims that could be bought in France Spain or other eu countries that could do the job while we are over there...?

they must have something..?
