Just done something I never, ever thought I would - have SORNed the motorhome . It seems so final, but better have the money in the bank rather than sat in storage doing nothing. Never mind, if I manage to get through the next 12 weeks not working, due to having to care for my 90 year old mother who has lung cancer and COPD, I will be dropping another day at work later in the year so we will have 5 days each week to travel.

We've SORNed ours today too. Only renewed the tax on it 1 February so seems worthwhile.

Chatting to a neighbour earlier who said they were sorting as their van is at Strathclyde Park storage and they cant take it out now til 30th June.

Month with, month without. Have your drive on the first and last day of the month.

The tax is small comapred to insurance so I am keeping mine as it is for the moment. I can't imagine no insurance on a new van unless a company has a policy where it's insured for theft and fire without road use. That would be useful.

We did the same today, seemed very final for a while. I live a mile from a beach but darent even go for a run as feelings are running quite high here. We are lucky enough to have it at home, so we clean it and read and chill out in it every day. I delayed our tunnel until June .may have to push it further back than that. Looking forward to getting back out on the road again. Stay safe everyone

Are you saying if you sorn your vehicle it is no longer insured ?????

Sorned ours today as can't forsee us being able to use it for a good while. Have trade plates so can still give it a run once the lockdown clears.

You van doesn't need to be taxed to be insured. If it's SORNed it will still be insured.

Just as a precaution, I did contact my insurers (Aegis) and they confirmed that Sorning did not affect the insurance.

There will be a big run on DVLA when the curfew is lifted.
I hope they have the sense to re-tax them all for different durations or they'll be a annual peak for MOT and tax.

Sorned my van as well, pity about the lock down as the sun's out again beautiful motorhoming weather. Ah well that's life. Will probably give the van a good wax over during this next few weeks.and finish off theultitude of jobs around the house.

Doesn't do it any harm either. Should be able to leave it 3 months without the slightest problem, and then the only need to move it would be to rotate the tyres slightly. Especially true these days with solar fitted.

It does seem sensible to SORN if you can, it doesn't affect insurance and easy enough to just place the tax on the car when you need it

Unless the terms of use of trade plates have changed in recent years, be careful nothing happens on your trips out, or try not to get stopped by the Police, as the use you mention wouldn’t normally be covered.

I thought trade plates can be used for road tests? so I'm just checking the brakes, gearbox, engine etc. I'm not stopping anywhere just doing a circuit to warm things up and clean the rust off the brakes.
