Hi All

Just noticed some cracking on my van tyres? I am currently ringing around for quotes for my Hymer. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations as to where I can get the best deal on Tyres for my van. Bit miffed as there is loads of tread left on them. Van is 4.5tonnes and currently runs on Michelin Agilis Camping Tyres. Any assistance would be appreciated. Need to get ready for the mad rush! lol!

Try Blackcircle, they will have a partner near you. Suggest speak to the fitters to make sure your van will fit their bay and that they have high pressure valves if you are running near 80psi.

I bought one pair from blackcircles.co.uk but when I wanted 3 more I found that the online kwickfit website was cheaper.
Make sure you know exactly what you want before you go looking.

Thanks, been on their website and the price for 4 tyres is still a bit painful, so looking to see if I can get a discount for 4! they do have an alternative tyre, but it is mainly for vans, but some Motorhomes are running on them. 25% discount for 4!

what age are the tyres that are cracking? and where are the cracks please. just interested.

I use Continental Vanco 2 Winter tyres all year round without problem. Have found Kwikfit always offered the best deal.

Eighteen months ago I to had a set of Michelin Agilis crack. They all had loads of tread and were only 3 years old. I contacted Michelin who naturally gave the textbook answer of they hadnt heard that before. One of my customers sells tyres and he's had hundreds to replace over the last 2 years.
After contacting another customer who looks after a fleet of 200 vans he advised Hankook. He will never use a Michelin branded tyres again.
I fitted a set and after 11000 miles am very happy with them.

I use Michelin Agilis Cross Climate.. However this you may have opened another can of worms as tyre threads always get lots of contradicting responses..😎😎

I am not sure of the age of the Tyres. I have looked on the sidewall and can not find the date marking? I have spoken to Michelin, and they pointed me to the date stamp on the side wall, but I'm blowed if I can find it!
Black Circle are offering 25% discount for Cross Climate tyres, how do you find these are they ok. Also I have read that some Michelin Agilis Tyres may be counterfeit? Is this why I can't find the date stamp? If anyone can send me a pic of their tyre with the date stamp that would help me. Thanks again everyone.

Yes but not Agilis Cross Climate.. IMV a far superior tyre. At the end of day a moho is a van so why are van tyres unsuitable???
The story goes that Michelin Agilis have extra strength in the sidewalls, thus making them stronger and more suitable for staying still in the same place for long periods e.g.in storage

I have a June 2018 PVC camper, build date early May 2018, we had ordered it in November 2017.

During the lockdown whilst giving the van a good clean up I looked at the date on the Michelin tyres, they are already over 3 years old, dated 02/17 - 03/17 - 02/17 and 04/17. Ca’nt do much about it though.

I would have thought that Auto Trail were busy enough not to have had the van hanging around for months.

Is this not where the confusion lies... the Agilis camping tyre is a totally different beast from the Agilis cross climate.
The camping tyre is apparently designed for "campers" whereby the cross climate is an all season van tyre..
Now please forgive me but what is a moho if it is not a van... and don't give me the "but my van sits in one position and never moves so I need proper camper tyres that won't flat spot after all the posts on here over last 3months about "what do I do... i can't move my van to charge batteries or revolve tyre or lubricate engine..or..or..or.
OMG My van is never in one position for so long.. it never stops moving around###

I had to change to 16" wheel to get tyres that were rated for our up-plated weight and opted for Hankook's mainly for the grip rating they have in the wet and dry and great customer feedback.
I never felt confident with the Continental Vanco's in the wet.

Make sure you get the correct load rating as some companies will quote a chearper price for the same siz tyre but with a lower load rating

Hi All

Thanks for all your replies, I am now going to check the inside of the Tyre. Never thought of that Derrrrrr!

Regarding the cracks in the side wall , it’s worth checking in the base of the tread because they can crack there also.
What size and load rating are you looking for.

I wouldn't want Michelin Agilis Camping Tyres on a van again but you don't get much choice when you buy a new van. Hard ride & lack of grip reasons I don't like them.

This is what can happen when tyres are old but still with loads of tread. The first pic shows the damaged underside of the van, the wheel arch liner had been totally ripped away and it left the exposed body.

Michelin Agilis Camping Green X are fitted to the van. 225/75R 16CP on sidewall. Think I'll fit a different make after all the moments about Michelin!
Thanks

Go for all weather tyres, a softer ride, much better grip on mud- wet grass etc, legal requirement in say Austria, Germany, Italy between November and April (?), and the wear and road noise is just as good as normal tyres.

Same answer as a thread 2 weeks ago but more info.

My MH is 6 wheel transit 3.85ton. fitted with orginal 2008 Bridgestone light truck tyres. Still have 4-5mm of tread but decided to book kwikfit mobile to replace fronts due to age. Selected replace Bridgestones.

mobilr turned up nice lad checked weight as he was only allowed to work on up to 4 ton with air jack. Removed wheel to find his balancer did not have a large enough centre spacer for the twin wheeler wheels.

job referred to local depot that handles "large vehicles" didn't have a bay tall enough so continued in car part. Cab was balanced on 2 trolley jacks rather than doing each side separately. Asked why they struggled like that rather than simply air jack mobile had used. Answer H&S cannot use them in depot.

job done does drive nicer for replacing them, now saving up £400 to replace the back 4.

@ DandG5515[/USER] you say Bridgestone but do not give number ,name Or size
please can you give us the above info cheers

Just been doing the rounds to buy two replacements for the front of my Carthago 225/75/16 116 Q). Just had service and down to 3mm with 31000 done in the 4 years from new. Rears at 7mm. Best price I have found is ASDA at £163. Offer on at the moment with the Michelin, £5 for each tyre on a payment card, so in essence £158. Upon ordering you select a local tyre fitter who then fits, balances and disposes all included in the price.

I have 215/75 -16r load 113 fitted at the moment (kumo) done 25000 miles but sidewalls cracked so replacing the back four been quoted Hanoi on or Kumo £90 so that's a result but a question what's the difference and should I put 225/75 in place
