I seem to be acting like a magnet for potentially weird vans.

Looking through the other stock at 4Front Motorhomes, I came across a Hobby 750 like I used to have. Checking its MOT history, it states First MOT date: ‘Unknown’. And ‘This vehicle hasn’t had its first MOT’. How can this be? It’s a 2013 van. o_O

Is it HGV?

Only sub 3500kg and below info is held by DVLA

It's also not been taxed since 2015

does the sellers listing maybe mention anything about it?

might it be sorned for some reason and possibly has been for three years

medical issues or something?

My old Arto was a bit like that but the first owner had worked in Germany for years and he had left it there until his work was done .Even though he bought it here from Travelworld .

No, no mention of anything that seems to explain it. If it doesn’t have an MOT then no-one can legally test drive it, AFAIK.

Yep

No MOT history probably means it's an import...............no MOT history...............

So could you trace it’s German equivalent of the MOT instead?

To be honest I didn't even worry about that as when I bought it had a service record and an MOT done by the dealer .

I thought about an import but this one is RHD.

Wouldn't worry about it too much, the only MOT that really matters is the last one, better check the service history

Checked the MOT history on 2 local MHs - both had done less than 2000 mile a year :(:(- an LMC Aclass and a PVC .... MOTs are only a guide to condition......

.................And the N&B is still UGLY

It hasn't had its first MOT yet according to the MOT checker so it's been stood for three years and three months at least..... Actually since 9th Oct 2015......3 years 9 months
Probably hasn't been started or moved in that time either.
Tyres deformed, brakes seized, engine oil seals dried out, cam belt deteriorated etc.
A big and possibly expensive risk.

My money is on it having a private plate and the OP is checking the 'Wrong' Reg. No.

Having said that, I've just checked my own 'van which had been issued with MOT's before we put our own plate on it and it came up "There is a problem". Howevert it might be that it didn't have an MOT due on it's original No. because I am aware that a previous owner halso had a 'Private' plate on it.

I have seen a couple of vehicles recently that had no history and still did not show up after mot, they were old though, van is probably an import or been on a private plate, dvsa records are not always accurate have seen 3 vehicles recently with the wrong fuel listed

I suppose you could phone 4front, tell them you are interested and ask them about it’s history.

Could it be that it's been sat in Spain fultiming for 3 yrs

It’s NOT due to it having a private plate.

I bought motorhome with private plate on it, so it then had its original plate put on it. Later I swapped a private plate off one of my cars onto my motorhome.

Just checked with dvla and it shows ALL the mots the motorhome has had (with all registrations, but not showing the different registrations)

Class 4 MOT's are held by the DVLA, all phgv's are class 4 the same as cars.

But that would be too easy! ;) And would they be telling the truth anyway? Forewarned is forearmed as they say. :)

Now that’s what I would hope would happen. As all the registrations would be tied in to the same VIN number, surely it’s not too difficult for DVLA to link the MOTs.

It could be, but how do you find out? Unless someone on here recognises the van ....... :)
The paint will have faded and the the graphics will have shrunk, possibly just on one side(y)

Probably not, I contacted them a while ago when I considered viewing one of their vans but they were less than helpful, erring on the side of rudeness when I started asking questions.

They only have a recent history of selling motorhomes. Prior to that it was a car supermarket. I doubt if their knowledge is great.

Our van (2007) had had two MOTs done when we bought it. Had taken it to our same local place for MOTs and services for many years, no problems. I had noticed that the V5 form had got the wrong VIN plate number recorded, but working on the basis “if it ain’t broke” I left it as it was. Last year when I took it in for MOT I waited in their waiting room while it was being done. After a few minutes the guy came to me and said there was a problem in that it has never had an MOT done on it! After a few moments I realised that he had logged in using the VIN plate and not the registration number which threw up the discrepancy. Outcome was that at 11 years old it had it’s “first” MOT and I had lost a month on the MOT date (had taken it in early), then had to get the V5 form updated.
