Good Evening Funsters.
Have been wondering about this for some time and having watched many threads on travel to foreign and UK destinations, I am curious about how many people are travelling per motorhome, and what the age range is?
I seem to think that the majority of posts are from either couples or singles, and of an age range possibly North of 50 plus years.
Are there many Funsters who regularly travel as more than 1 or 2 up, and as a family unit?
I ask because, Mrs Yoghurtpot and myself had envisaged using the Moho with our grandkids as well as on our own, but think that our needs for us and van choice are now possibly wrong, and we are looking at vans just for us, ie 2 berth with possible occasional 2 more.
Grandkids are limited in time with school, but we are looking at getting away whenever, and whilst we love the grandkids, we don't want to be tied to only using the van when they are available.
Should we be looking at vans just for us, and is the option of travelling with the grandkids a nice thought, but limiting in our own use.
Just curious.

I had this issue when we decided to make our PVC, how many seats do we have, we decided not to have a front dinette with belted seats, so we decided to fit a swivel to the drivers seat and to the double so we have 3 seats so if a grandchild wants to come with us they can. It’s likely to be g/son aged 9 who would want to, when allowed. Both seats now swivel so gives us great room.

we bought a 6 berth for our first Motorhome on the same premise as you " we will be taking the grand kids"!

big mistake IMHO. could not wait to move it on.

we now have a 3 Berth low profile for 2 of us and the dog, that suits our needs not anyone else and have loved every minute of it.
( ps; no the 3rd birth is not the dogs ) :ROFLMAO:
the grand kids still come along occasionally and they and we have a great time. thats when the awning comes out or the pup tent or both.

We sometimes have grandchildren with us, sometimes not. There is a removable top bed so we take that out when it is just the two of us. Our mid-teenage granddaughter came to Europe with us this summer, we all had a great time.

the age range is 30s to 90+ and extremely varied with some interesting characters. The vast majority is couples many singles and a few family groups of all ranges

We travel just the 2 of us but will meet up with my daughter and the grandkids with their tent using the van as a base. At the moment I would not want to travel with the gremlins by ourselves, but who knows maybe. The van is 6 berth with 6 belted seats, but it's a luxury 2 berth to us

Just the two of us, and the grand-children are too grown up to come with us.

In normal times we would meet up with our daughter and son-in-law who are Rutgers, but there is nothing normal about these times.

We are on 5th van due to concidering others😱🤦‍♀️
parents and grandchildren, we’ve just purchased benimar 486, perfect for 2 but has drop down bed which comes down to all levels and L shape lounge with 2 travel seats which makes large bed if needed - perfect👍

We have 2 grandkids that have lived with us since they were born. They are now 15 and 13.
Always had a motorhome and they have come with us on many trips here in UK and in Europe, lasting from the odd weekend up to the complete 6 weeks summer holidays spent in France and Spain.

Up until last year we always had 6 berth vans with the rear U lounge, front dinette and overcab bed. Suited us when we were all together and gave us lots of room when travelling just as a couple.

Now the kids are bigger and older plus more school commitments they dont do as many trips. We changed last year to an "A" class having a rear fixed island bed, which we love and is a bit of luxury. It has the large drop down bed at the front and 2 rear seat belts so we can still travel as a family when we want / need to. (y)

Our considerations with a van are there is just two of us in our late 60s and we like a bit of space so choose a four berth as we take our two dogs as well.😊

This is exactly my dilemma.
Our van sleeps 5, has 6 belts but no real 'lounging' area. Mainly suited for warmer climes and outdoor continental living.
For us 2 we have been considering a drop down bed and front swivel seats with a rear fixed bed, or rear bench seats.
Think we need a rethink whilst in lockdown, but it's a nice dilemma to have, thinking we might be changing our van for a better, or more practical one.
Thanks for the reply.

With 3 children and their partners and 9 grandchildren, my van is nicknamed the GAS (Grandchild Avoidance System). It’s definitely a one man van, I need my own space! I vaguely remember being 60?

We have a MH with a fixed transfer double and a drop-down double. We are two but have taken Basia's Mother with us for weekends in the past even at age 96 but she is now 99 and a bit past travelling with us.

Basia has a son and DiL with 3 kids 16,10 and 2 living below us. It has never been mooted that any of them come with us, neither by Basia nor they, and I would not be in favour. They go tent camping as a family in school holidays. Our trips are usually deliberately out of school holidays and to avoid August hot weather.

Well we bought a nice 6 berth van but it only has TWO travel seats

So if kids want us to have grandkids THEY have to bring them to us - - -not happened since we changed motorhome from caravan except in first year and daughter had to fly out to us

We too are on our 4th in 3 years
This is the 1st one chosen “selfishly” as a 2 berth with a big fridge, big bathroom/dressing area for us
The others have had travel seats impeding the lounge area and we used the seats twice, but sat in a cramped lounge EVERY trip

Buy one for you

We have a 6 berth for the 2 of us with 2 large Weimaraner's and need every inch of room (mainly for the dogs) we do occasionally take the grand kids with us but mostly just us (both in mid 50's though I am a bit further into them than SWMBO is)

If there is, bet Channel 4 has made a documentary about it.

"Three go REALLY wild in a Motorhome" or "A couple and our friend in a Motorhome" or ""Not all chains go on the tyres".
Methinks I may not have explained this adequately, but the replies are funny😊

My thoughts are moving in that direction rapidly.

The very reason we have the B544, an a class with drop down bed plus one convertible berth but importantly with the swivel front seats there is seating for 8 and lots of lounging space to put feet up.

And I take it a B544 is a Hymer?
Or have I got this base over apex?
Must admit, I quite fancy an A class, and my licence will allow.

once you have enjoyed the extra living space of an A class, it is hard to accept anything else unless you have to
