Gas refill. We are on our first trip to Spain and just arrived with 2 uk exchangeable bottles. Not sure if we can fill these up with lpg and if so anyone know where one can buy a connector?

I think you may need to purchase a Spanish bottle and maybe a regulator?

I don't think you can safely re-fill exchange bottles.
Buy some Spanish ones

You can't fill exchangeable bottles they are filled at a gas depot by calor. And you can't exchange them either in Spain. On the plus side Spanish bottles are cheap, 👍

In your shoes, we would get advice from a motorhome accessories shop. You need to know exactly how to connect a Spanish gas bottle to your motorhome. For future reference, consider getting the refillable gas bottles.

If your van has a BBQ point you can use that along with a Spanish bottle and regulator or you can have the Spanish bottle connected to your built in regulator with a Spanish adaptor.
So you will need a hose to suit. If you advise where you are in Spain ,funsters can advise where to get items from.

There are actually a few places that will refill your calors but I can't remember where exactly they are. Best idea is like above, new Spanish bottles from second hand shop and a regulator from most campsite shops.

Thanks everybody that has replied, much appreciated. We are near Fuengirola heading towards Olvera tomorrow as have read there there is a nice aire there which has electric supply. We checked out Spanish bottles but were dismayed to find they are slightly too big for the door to the gas compartment. We have a Swift 644. Now resigning ourselves to checking into an air bnb once a week so as to have a shower! Julia and Mike

Just go for a swim 😬

The aire we stayed in above Bilbao had showers and toilets but these were closed due to covid. Hopefully some of the campsites will allow showering. The med. looks beautiful but too cold for me!

Well, look at the bright side.
You are there and we are here, and you are gaining valuable MH experience

Good luck to you

Most people that use the Spanish bottles stand them outside the gas lockets and just run the hose in either thru the BBQ point or with the gas locker door slightly open.

This website, based just east of Marbella, has been around for a while. It seems to have been revamped recently so may still be offering to refill Calor bottles??

Do you not have a shower on board? If you go to a campsite with hook up use the electric to heat your water??? (or use the campsite showers if they have one)

We toured Spain in Oct/Nov. Really glad we fitted a refillable (Gaslow) bottle before we left. You can top it up in lots of garages.

have a swim, lots of people in the UK swear by it (something like 5,000 do it all year round according to the BBC :cold:)

Although not cheap try a camping gaz bottle, a 904 with the correct adapter will get you out of a hole?

Yes, I have a Gaslow bottle for when off grid, amazing how long it lasts on the cooking and fridge,
I'm thinking about getting a smaller one as the heating/hot water is Eberspacher and when on site, the EHU.

we can all make mistakes and i really do hope that everything else goes well for you ! if youre settled where you are, perhaps it might be an idea to look on the spanish ebay site or something similar, there may be part full or used cylinders for sale locally that you can buy cheaply and then exchange?

i dont know how it works in spain re recycling (tips/waste disposal) but we have been able to obtain 'unwanted' cylinders in France from the local tip for free from time to time and then used them as exchange bottles, saving us the cost of initial purchase of the bottles.

if you take the time now to write down all the things that you encounter wherever you stay that you have needed to resolve or have learned, it will make future travels a lot easier. i would also certainly consider having a refillable system fitted in the future.

enjoy your adventure

Why not have a wander around some of the the larger sites where theres a greater possibility of UK vans and ask them for help, we've all been in your position. Good Luck!

Not all Spanish cylinders are the same size, you should check out K6 at Repsol petrol stations...they are much smaller and easier to obtain without contract...together with the correct adaptor and pigtail this would suit your requirements...
PM me if you want more information about Gas in Spain...

Thanks so much. We made contact with guy who does it in Marbella and meeting him tomorrow. It seems he doesn't have premises anymore, just a pick up point so fingers crossed. For anyone else looking the website is gasbottlerefill.com. when we were in Tarifa a garage there would have refilled them if he had the right adaptor.

Go to annibal garage outside aguillas. They fill anything . Have all the adapters for any bottle

Success with the guy on Marbella met us at pick up point to collect bottles and returned an hour later. These will last us 2 weeks if careful. Cookie what town is the annibel garage in? Also thank you to Jumar for the tip about K6 bottles at Repsol, will certainly check that out. Meanwhile we have plenty for now and made it to Chipiona near Cadiz, feels like the real Spain.

Hi.annibsl garage is shown on park4night.
Its just outside aguilas.
Its a decent stop as well.
We paid 10€

Thanks so much for the info Cookie. I didn’t realise Aguilas was a town. that location will suit us as we head back along the coast to Barcelona. We are currently staying at Seville 1, a great urban aire with an easy bike ride into the city centre. Not too cold so we are eeking out the gas. Seville a fascinating place. I really appreciate your help. Julia.
