Lots now
We are at the end of our current contract with vodaphone.
we are sim only as this works better for us In the long term as the company pays for both the hardware and the running contract costs.
We had 3 devices 1 data only unlimited iPad plus 2 phones on 100gb limit, before brexit we could use 25gb on the data sim and 200gb from the phones.
This for us was a great system allowing us to stream in the uk with no hassle and gave us enough to stream whilst travelling europe.
Its all change now isn’t it with limits of 12gb on uk devices whilst in Europe.
Are all the networks the same ?
we could in theory get a Spanish pay as you go for the iPad but will this then lead to problems viewing the British fire stick.
Advice required please.
(I’m not sure I’m going to like the information but still need to sort something out)

Roaming rules in EU changed this year. It would be interesting to know if they have a limit on use in EU.
Their T & C's aren't clear

Super drug is on a rolling 30 day contract so you're not tied in if there policy changes, they say you can use your full allowance in Europe including unlimited, however I would make sure to use it as much as possible in the UK before your trip to establish that you are UK based.

At the moment there is still no limit on usage in the EU with the Superdrug unlimited sim. On my way home now after a month in Spain, 46gb of use.

This looks like a great solution. I may keep the 2 phones on vodaphone and get a Superdrug unlimited for the iPad.
This may give me greater cover in different locations.

That is interesting to hear some first hand experience. I had an online chat with them a couple of weeks ago and they said that, whilst data usage in the EU remained uncapped on their ’unlimited data’ plan, the time period would be capped to a ‘reasonable length of time’. When I asked what reasonable meant, the reply was upto 3 weeks, although they could not show me this in their T&Cs when I asked them to !

I hope that the fact they use the 3 network, who yesterday said they will now be capping and charging for data in Europe doesn’t affect this deal.

I’ve had a U.K. Vodafone sim only contract for the last 6 years living permanently abroad, in Spain and now Portugal.
Never been turned off, warned, capped or anything! Never had a message about roaming usage, and never a problem!
(…..I do hear stories of folk getting such messages, but usually on U.K. specific providers.).
Maybe it’s because Vodafone seems to be the same all over europe, and doesn’t piggy back other providers like some do.

Its a good idea to use different providers for longer periods but there's normally a selection of alternative networks available to you when roaming, just do manual network selection.

One of the reasons thst the network s didn't like it was it gave someone roaming an advantage over their own domestic customers and eroded the value of investment in network improvement.

Never thought about doing that. Good idea

Well I have ordered the Superdrug sim. It can be cancelled at any time so no worry’s.
I will keep the vodaphone 100gb on the 2 phones as well.

My EE contract recently about to change and price rise by 50% and no roaming  Just an automatic text informing me so if anyone is on EE check your notifications.
I rang to cancel and order a PAC code, declined all offers given to me at the time.
Within an hour, I had a call back from another person who gave me more data, at less price per month than I had been paying and after a little pressure waived the £2 day roaming charge they are bringing in for the life of the contract which is 12 months.
It’s a pain that one has to jump through these hoops.

Has it changed?
Or is it the same IF you haven’t changed your “deal” so previous rules still apply.

Asking, not telling. But that’s how I thought it worked.

Unfortunately the deal had a 50% discount for the duration. So a new deal would have to be arranged.

We re with Sky (O2) where we bank unused data, we're only on fairly low data plans but particularly following last year had enough to watch the Euros and F1 in Spain and Portugal without problem s. Although if we were going to be away for longer than a few months I would get a local sim like I used to.

There are people living here in Benidorm we know that use Vodafone and O² permanently, been 3 years now and nothing is ever said.

Phones sorted for the next 18 months £12 a month includes 100gb in the uk and 25gb in Europe with vodaphone.
coupled with our Superdrug sim it will do us for now.
If you don't mind claiming cashback 100gb Vodafone deals can be had for £9.33/month and you can go through topcashback for more dosh back.

Not that I know much but you could have a mifi unit, put the unlimited sim in there then you can log on all your devises onto the mifi (hot spot) even at the same time without the hassle of changing the sims in the other devises? Mifi units are 2 a penny but I think you are from Yorkshire so it might be an issue!

FYI, Free France network are doing a 150GB data on sim for €19.99 per month. We use it in the van for WiFi and make calls via Watts App.
You only get the 150GB per month in France. In the rest of Europe it's limited to 25GB per month.

I read an article yesterday that said that the only large sim providers that would NOT be charging for roaming abroad are SKY and Tesco Mobile. All others will have a £2 a day or £10 a month for roaming when abroad. How that will work when one supplier offering free roaming piggybacks off another supplier who charges, heaven knows.
My wife had a data usage warning last month from Vodafone (a company card) while we were in Spain, and last Christmas, my phone with a shiny new 100gb data only card from Vodafone UK cut off after 25gb. Subsequent calls to them were fruitless, but they did cancel the contract as I claimed it was mis-sold.
Those of you lucky enough to be able to still use your data abroad may well be better to stick with the current deal they have and hope to stay under the radar!
