I have watched ‘The Duellists‘ directed by Ridley Scott with Keith Carridine and Harvey Keitel many times. I just love the scenes, shot with such care and skill, that each look like a painted tableau. The story, based on a Joseph Conrad novel, is about a duel between two officers in Napoleon’s army that can’t take place due to the fact that promotions prevent the duel. The duelling rules apparently prohibited officers of different ranks from duelling. The perceived slight, that leads to the challenge to duel, is almost forgotten so much time intervenes until they’re in a position to duel.
The scenes of rural France are so atmospheric that, at times in France, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the characters passed you in a village backstreet.
Ridley Scott’s first film as a director and, in my view, never bettered.

I'm a newbie
Judy is on the BBC iPlayer , what a sad life she had , I looked up some pictures of the 1968 London shows after watching it , I'd think she doesn't weigh 6 stone , her legs are like sticks

Worth watching

A Star is born is on there as well , Bradley Cooper can really sing

Don't know if this one has had a mention, but
"The world according to Garp" starring Robin Williams is one of the VERY BEST films I have ever seen....Not very well known, most people have not heard of it, but, trust me it is wonderful.
Highly recommended...

But can I please ask that you say where the movie can be found - saves people trawling Netflix or Amazon when it's on Sky.
Download the app JustWatch. Type in any film or TV show and it lists where you can watch it and if it's streamed as part of a subscription or how much you have to pay to see it. Very handy.

A big surprise was Still Life with Eddie Marsan. Important to see it to the end to get to the big twist. I was mesmerised.
Harry Brown with Michael Caine.
Tyrannosaur with Olivia Coleman (not a dino flick, honest).

The English Patient.
The Remains of the Day.

Another Robin Williams masterpiece, Dead Poet’s Society.
Another vote for Shawshank Redemption, my second favourite film ever.

Definately, in the heat of the night, rod steiger sydney poitier. Just raw america in its time.

Especially when one remembers WHEN it was filmed, unsurprisingly Sidney Poitier received a number of death threats.

We saw Bullet Train this week, thought it was the worst film we have ever seen. Just shows how we are all different!

Jungle book, the original, I’m gone baby....

In the 80's, films that were always on my long distant coaches, the original 'Jungle Book' (kept the kids happy for hours) and original 'Blues Brothers', 'An Officer and Gentleman', 'Top Gun' and 'The Sound of Music' when they did the tour in Austria. :giggle:

Every one a classic in it's own way!

Perhaps a new Christmas favourite for us? Cracking soundtrack & available on BBC I-Player or catch up right now.

OMG I forgot this one. Stumbled upon it earlier this year. Brilliant, I was singing my heart out all the way. One I will watch over and over again when I need a feel good movie, most days just lately :giggle:

I have downloaded (or is it uploaded, i don't know) so will be watching it tonight.
Can't find Bullet Train.
I can't either. Checked out Amazon and it's not being released on Prime till February next year by the looks of it.

Into The Wild

Based on a true story of a graduate who gives up his worldly possessions to embark on an eventual solitary life. Really thought provoking and really moving.
