Good movies you've watched, please add more.

Mercury Rising
Big Jake
Hidden figures
The Martian
Downfall
Muriel's wedding

Big Jake had this great line from Maureen OHara (background her ranch had been shot up, people killed and grandson kidnapped) “It is I think going to be a very harsh and unpleasant kind of business, and will I think require an extremely harsh and unpleasant kind of man to see to it" Sends for husband

’The Upside’ Immediately comes to mind. Brian Cranston and Kevin Hart play a disabled multi-millionaire and an ex-con whose paths cross. Very witty, has a bit of everything. Really good. On Amazon Prime.
Thanks alex n just watched "The Upside" on Prime, very moving & witty as you said, cant imagine anyone not liking & getting touched by this one (y)

Although they are often considered classics I cannot watch any film that's full of misery.

One flew over the cuckoo's nest
12 years a slave
The Deer Hunter
The Shining.

I agree. I prefer escapist and uplifting films with a happy ending.

And real comedy. Carry On Up the Khyber was mentioned earlier - totally non-PC. Every race gets stereotyped, no exceptions! Loads of sexism! If you want to be offended fill your boots! The formal dinner scene under cannon fire near the end is one of the British classic comedy set pieces that will never be surpassed. Brilliant. So funny. 5 stars from me.

Angst-a-Rama films depress me. There's enough misery in the World without wallowing in it in my living room.

Can’t find this film. Can you tell us what you watched it on?
I was granted a special viewing as I was associated with the British Film Institute and run an annual film festival every year in the uk. But I have a feeling it is on Amaz
Snowcake,

Definitely a much overlooked brilliant film.

The 100ft Journey.

Helen Mirren & Om Puri. A Family leave India and via London end up on South Of France where they set up a Trad Indian restaurant opposite the Michelin starred restaurant belonging to Helen Mirren, who does not approve....

Please keep the "Newish" movies posted as although we only have Prime, plus a couple of movie channels, we still miss a few that others may have viewed and can feedback on.
Many Thanks.

PS: some old movies on The Talking Pictures channel are also good, especially as they were filmed while I was kid, surprising how many were made during WW2 here & in the US, thought man actors would have been called up at the time.

Very, very loosely based around a true story of three lighthouse keepers who vanished.

I watched Alien Covenant last night 2017 on Film 4.
I didn't realise it was yet another Alien film at first as I was channel surfing and landed on it about 20mins into the film.
It did well for a sequel, with a couple of scary surprises, and a twist at the very end which I somehow guessed was coming, when my suspicion was confirmed.

For all the dog lovers Hachi: A Dog's Tale. It's a great film and based on a true story showing how devoted dogs can become to those that look after them.
