We left last Wednesday for the start of a 6 week tour of France but turned left to Belgium and then onto Luxembourg. Off to Strasbourg for a couple days today then will reassess the fuel situation. I was told this morning that the crisis appears to be getting better and many garages have fuel. Someone has driven up the west coast to Calais and only found one service station with limited grade of fuel.
Hope this helps .

Friends drove from Belgum to brittany on friday, stopped at most stations on motorway and topped off each time , price was higher but fuel availaible , Here in Brittany most supermarkets have fuel , but limited to 20 or 30 litres , some will not let you fill jerrycans .but on whole currently not too bad , if you stay away from large towns ie , vannes, rennes where long lins of cars.app essence .fr can be usefull if passing through.
Bon chance .

French truckers' strike threatens chaos

Britons travelling in France could be caught in a damaging strike next week.

UK hauliers are also set to be hit by the threatened stoppage by French truckers' unions.

The French workers are poised to start road blockades from 9pm on Sunday, should last-ditch talks in the pay-and-conditions row fail to produce a settlement.

"They are bound to target ports and that will hit both hauliers and trippers," said Geoff Dossetter of the UK's Freight Transport Association.

He went on: "We hope this does not turn out to be as devastating as the strikes in the late 1990s."

The British freight transport industry was severely hit by lengthy action by French transport workers in both 1996 and 1997.

There were numerous roadblocks set up around France and some UK lorry drivers were stranded for days at a time.

Since then, there have been isolated short strikes but it has been mainly quiet on the dispute front over the past two years.

France is already being hit by a protest from farmers who have used tractors and vegetable crates to block food distribution centres.

Don't think there's a problem, apart from Calais - protest is about violence to truckers

Been in Normandy two weeks now, everything is completely normal.
Diesel at hypermarkets running about 109c/litre.
Lots of sites winding down now that school is back. Bars on some sites may be closing at 7 or 8 pm, and on-site shops operating 8 to 12, and 5 to 7 etc.
Local papers reporting that Sarcozy moving to reverse the decision to allow the UK border start in Calais, thus moving the migrants over the channel. 10,000 migrants in Calais camp, plus 2000 more a few miles down the coast at the moment.

Pression migratoire : action des transporteurs routiers dans le Calaisis le 5 septembre

But isn't that just about security for trucks in the Pas de Calais ? not throughout France

Yes, I think you're right - looking at the above link, this is the first paragraph:

La journée d’actions annoncée le 5 septembre consistera, si elle n’est pas interdite par la préfecture du Pas-de-Calais (*), en deux opérations escargot simultanées sur l’A16. L’une au départ de Dunkerque, l’autre au départ de Boulogne-sur-Mer, avec un point de rencontre à hauteur de Calais et Coquelles.

Which seems to say that it is just ONE day of action on Monday 5 September where there will be 2 'snail' protests by truckers on the A16, one convoy will travel from Boulogne Sur Mer and the other from Dunkerque and they'll stop in Calais and Coquelles respectively (unless stopped by the Calais authorities). This appears it will mainly affect anyone going to these places, ie ferry and Eurotunnel, rather than those arriving from the UK although it will have some effect on traffic generally.

We are going over on Eurotunnel on Tuesday tea-time so hopefully there'll be nothing affecting our travel then.
