Travelling north through France heading for the tunnel and shocked at the diesel prices after a few months of Spanish prices.
What are the current UK supermarket prices like so I can guess if I should be filling up before leaving France or filling up when arriving in UK.
Seems I’ve been in a time warp with prices of €1.69 seen on the motorways and even €1.50 at a Carrefour yesterday.

I too was shocked at french prices compared to Spanish

But I was even more shocked at UK prices when getting back here.

I was paying average of €1.15 in spain and €1.36 in france then got back to uk to £1.27, £1.35 etc

But I would never dream of paying motorway prices at €1.60 -80

Came across an automated filling station in Vera (near Lidl), Almeria, Spain about ten days ago - 1.09 euro, which was particularly good value. We'd been paying around 1.25 euro at Repsol stations.

But yes, diesel in France has got very expensive. Couldn't quite believe it when we drove down to Spain. Suspect the high fuel prices are a contributory factor in the yellow vest protests.

When the needle hits E what you gonna pay then £100 plus for the breakdown man or just fill up when needed regardless of the price , when you look at the difference it's not that great about £3/4 per tank full against the breakdown man!!!

Edit even if it's £10 it's still better than the breakdown man

Diesel is cheaper in every other eu country than the uk , it's also cheaper than petrol unlike the uk where diesel is dearer than petrol.

Yet our government claims it's due to eu imposed green targets that our diesel is so expensive

I wonder who they will blame after brexshit ?

I stopped using repsol as they were on average €0.10 a litre more expensive than the other stations in Spain

Cheapest I got in spain was €1.01 just north of lorca , average I paid was €1.15-19.

If it needs filling up then it doesn’t really matter about the price.
Just checked and I have plenty to see me over the channel so I can fill up at Tesco before hitting the English motorways.
Thanks for the input, varied as it is.

You didn't spend very long in Italy did you Tam, probably the dearest in the EU.
Only 2 or 3 weeks but I found the fuel about the same as france

But still cheaper than the uk when converted

€1.39 was about £1.19 when I was there

And I paid no more than €1.47 a litre my entire trip according to my log book

You're better filling up over there before you cross.

When the exchange rate was on its arse , I used to fill in Dover on the way out , and the last German stop on the way back so I didn't have to give any money to the French, or get reamed by the Belgian and Dutch Motorway prices. Always use AutoHof places for best prices in Germany.

There's a few websites been suggested but there are also APP's that are updated daily ( for Android for us) for

France we use an APP called Essence (when installed it says Petrol) tells you where stations are and prices (it shows UK stations but not price also gives GPL but is bit behind - - - Shows Auchan in Calais cheapest today at €1.455

For Germany we sue Clever Tanken
For Netherlands we use Fuel Node (Amsterdam showing cheapest as €1.35)
For Spain we use GeoGasolineras

Of Course most of the App only work when you are in that country (which is a little annoying at times when you're trying to research routes

Since 2019, a bit before lockdown!
Diesel in Newbury West Berkshire, BP. 145.99 sheer greed. Sainsburys 133.99.
Diesel in Newbury is always more expensive than anywhere else around. We try to fill up in neighbouring towns if we happen to be in them, only putting a bit in if we absolutely have to in Newbury. Yes Khizzie, sheer greed by the filling stations.

Not long enough!
Not even worth thinking about, if you need fuel, get some.
In france say €1.60 litre
In spain sat €1.15 litre
45 cents for 100 litres is €45 euro diffs on a tank full.big difference.
