What are the Tier 3 COVID lockdown rules – and which areas are included? (yahoo.com)

Some 34 million people will be subjected to England’s toughest Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions from 16 December.
The virus has been spreading rapidly in swathes of the South, with London and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire moving into Tier 3 from the less restrictive Tier 2.
It will mean 61% of people in the country will be in Tier 3, amid fresh doubts over the government’s UK-wide relaxation of the household mixing rules over Christmas.
This map by Yahoo News UK shows which areas are in which tier...

Below is a breakdown of the key Tier 3 rules, and the full list of areas in Tier 3...

Here are key guidelines people in Tier 3 areas must follow:

  • People are banned from indoor socialising with others they don’t live with or have a “support bubble” with. The ban also applies to outdoor socialising in private gardens
  • People are allowed to meet in groups of up to six – including others they don’t live with – in some outdoor public spaces including parks, beaches, public gardens, heritage sites, sports facilities and playgrounds
  • Bars and restaurants must close except for takeaway and delivery services
  • Accommodation such as hotels, bed and breakfasts, campsites and guest houses must close
  • Indoor entertainment venues, from casinos to cinemas, must close
  • Indoor attractions at mostly outdoor venues must close. This includes indoor attractions within zoos, safari parks, wildlife reserves, aquariums, farms, and theme parks
  • Gyms and sports facilities can continue to stay open for individual exercise or exercise among a household. Indoor group exercise classes cannot take place
  • Attendance at shows, performances or sporting events is not allowed
  • People can attend places of worship but, while inside, are not allowed to socialise with others they don’t live with
  • Up to 15 people can attend wedding ceremonies but receptions aren’t permitted. Up to 30 can attend funerals
  • Organised outdoor sport and physical activity can continue with any number of people, though people “should avoid contact in training”
For further information, here is the government’s full set of Tier 3 guidelines.

The following venues are allowed to open in all three tiers:

  • Non-essential retail shops, as well as indoor and outdoor markets
  • Leisure centres, gyms, dance studios, golf courses, swimming pools, riding centres, outdoor playgrounds
  • Close contact personal care shops such as barbers and hairdressers, beauty salons, tattoo parlours, nail salons, spas and beauty services, massage parlours and tanning salons
  • Public buildings such as libraries and community centres

Bummer! We are planning to go a bit North of Gairloch for Christmas and New Year, leaving this Sunday. Just hoping the dog can keep his legs crossed long enough for us to transit the Central belt without stopping!

They have not yet announced the new tiers for Bristol. The article is slightly misleading in showing a mix of new tiers for London and current tiers for elswhere that are due to be reviewed.

The government is set to decide its revised tier allocations today (Wednesday, December 16).

Businesses and residents are nervously awaiting their fate, which will be informed by five key coronavirus data points.

Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire have spent two weeks in the toughest Tier 3 restrictions, with restaurants, pubs, cafes and indoor entertainment venues banned from opening.

It was initially thought that the tier revisions would be announced today, but it is now believed that the decision will not be disclosed until tomorrow (Thursday).

Every time restrictions are lifted COVID spikes...If we had stayed locked down as in last march april i reckon we would have had it beaten by now..Looking around i think the majority think its all over..they seem to have forgotten about SD and as regards hand washing its seems non existent when entering and leaving supermarkets,,BUSBY.

If that's the case I think the title needs changing.

Exactly, makes no odds what the government say, people will do just as they like anyway.

Where have you got this info from please Mel as like Riverbankannie said re Bristol, I dont think it's been confirmed yet (I'm in Notts & hoping!)
Hi Debs, fingers crossed for you. I look at these sites but of course the decision is made by "those upstairs"

About the second week in january i think we can expect a huge spike and a more severe lockdown,,,What a shame that the Government are frightened of upsetting the masses. BUSBY.

We had five vans booked in over Christmas. Our immediate area is OK and I thought we might move to tier 2 but being lumped in with Lincolnshire as a whole means we're still Tier 3 so the Campsite must remain closed :xsad:

More to the point they think the masses will do as they like anyway.

Let's face it, if you are vulnerable and catch the virus in the next month or so (outside of a care home or hospital) you only have yourself to blame. You can't point the finger at anyone, least of all the Government.

Is this for definite Jim , or could this change if you are moved to Tier 2?
(new tiers are being announced tomorrow)

Ah, misunderstood... I was reading the thread as if it is was news and we were remaining in Tier 3. However If it transpires we are no longer Tier 3 then we will definitely let people in (y)

The rules are so complex, they even had an expert on LBC radio to try and help people decipher whether their Xmas plans for family gatherings/travels were legal or not.......most were upset to find that their plans, however Covid Rule aware were not possible, and were illegal.
One guy was told that even driving from tier 3 (London) to pick up his daughter from a North East Uni was allowed between the 23rd to 27th of December when rules are "relaxed" but illegal outside those times, even without stopping.
The Health Experts are being muzzled, if they had their way, they would continue the Lock Down over xmas.

I hope the majority will try their best to be sensible and protect their elderly relatives, but as many have asked in The media & elsewhere, Is it really worth the risk for the sake of 5 days of xmas?
We will see in the new year.

We are staying put at home on our own, son from London, has behaved like most of his immediate peer group and thousands of others, so is barred, as he is in Tier 3, we are in tier 2, there will be many more occasions for us to celebrate hopefully in the near future.
Stay Safe everyone.

Yahoo news - sent to me by hubby, reading the start of the item is seemed to say these WERE the new tiers ... I sincerely hope they're not but if this ISN'T the real list then Yahoo is putting out false info.

For us, no matter how much we are missing our families let's use common sense and bunker down for hopefully just a little while longer.
What's the point of falling at the last fence?
Looking forward to lots of travels from spring 🤞

If the government ‘ upset the masses’ a lot of experts and anti government people will have a field day . Let’s face it , if you can’t personally take responsibility it is very very sad . Unfortunately ,as we know a lot can’t . Sometimes I think is it best to become a hermit , I am ‘lucky ‘ I like my own company

Decided a while ago that, no matter what tier, we would not be socialising with family over Christmas. A hard decision especially as my younger, single adult family son will be 50 on boxing day. We initially thought that we would meet up somewhere between here and his home, but it is just not worth the risk. Grandchildrn would be devastated if either of us ended up with the dreaded bug, and would feel responsible, even if we had picked it up at a supermarket.
We will have a big celebration eventually, we have 6 birthdays around now too.Sad but it would be morally wrong to go to different areas. Waiting for the vaccine :xsmile:

How long does the virus live on the Christmas cards we are all sending between the tiers, how long should we leave them before opening?

I cannot see London going into tier 3 and then moving other parts of the country down to tier 2.
They’re going to make sure we all suffer with them.
Wife’s birthday today, not going anywhere and nobody’s coming here, I’m quite happy to call off Christmas, plenty of other time to celebrate.

Where’s sir Kerr when you need him abstaining 🤔

We should have closed our borders like Australia.
