Off to France. May be a silly question but do the stripes have to point in any special direction?

as said.. not a legal requirement.. but I always use one , even in the UK..

the chevrons should point to the off-side of the van.. so in France that would be pointing left.. and right in the UK

Any legislation on whether the sq is metal or acrylic?

They make you much more visable at night. I would always use one whatever the rules....better then being shunted!

That's a good point, our bike rack extends from the hitch point and the bike cover is navy blue so would be difficult to see in the dark. The hitch rack does have a full set of lights but no harm in extra visibility.

Yup Italy must be aluminium sign
Thanks for that, glad I ordered the aluminium one now

EBAY... here we come !

The Fiamma one we got doesn't have chevrons, just diagonal stripes & reflectors in the corners - is that no use for Spain, Portugal & Italy then?

Oh OK, good(!) thanks :) - so the bottom of the stripe points to the road on the driver's side?
