Nearly aint got one.
Exp
Caravan & motorhome 45 + yrs
You have spent your kids/Grand Kids inheritance/Years of saving up/ Gone with out so you can buy a New/Second hand Motor Home...

Did you ever think you should not have bought that particular one..?????

And wished you had not................................and...
"Why"..?????? :giggler:

Nope !!...... Happy with what I spent, happy with my model.

Both of my boys are earning massively more than I was at their age, youngest and his wife are both senior University lecturers with PhDs. My eldest is some high flyer in the capital, married to a corporate lawyer and in their 2nd home, worth over a £million.

The pittance I could leave them is minimal in their lives, so I intend to spend it ?

Nope.. We started off camping with the kids in a mini traveller.. did it for years

Then about 14 years ago I thought as Woman and I was getting long in the tooth it might be nice to camp in a bit of luxury
Bought a Landy Disco and a smallish caravan to give it a try.
Had a couple of long weekends away and decided we liked the scene but not the snail shell
Looked around, bought a real wreck off of fleabay for £4k
It was awful ! Put it back on eBay and got £6k for it
Searched around again and found a late 80's Hobby..

The rest is history as they say.
So while I do not regret spending a bit on the van I DO regret buying a bloody caravan !!!! ( and many many years wasted in tents ! )

Started with an old ldv conversion, then progressed  to a proper  motorhome, always afraid of damaging it or putting something up with screw holes, now back to a converted ambulance and love it, no going back to having a lot of money standing out.

We managed to avoid the children burden so spend it on ourselves and the Dogs Trust / Guide Dogs. Most of our friends have had the children hassle and they are now experiencing the grand children noose.
Some may like these shackles but not us.

They say that grandchildren fill a space in your heart that you never knew was there, so I guess you don’t miss what you never had

Well interesting question! I don't have a MoHo at the moment, and I've promised my daughter, who has far more wealth than myself that we intend to spend everything we have before we go:sneaky:

The first one, a HUGE yes. Homecar XS33, awful van. So many manufacturing and design faults. Got shot within the first 6 mths. The others, no.

No it's my money, I let my good lady wife look at it sometimes. The motorhome is all that I need, nothing flashy. My wife is only 58, wants to live till she is 100, in 42 years there will not be anything left. My daughters will be 76 and 73 they will probably be approaching their pension age if it keeps going up.

The only motorhome purchase I regretted was buying a brand new swift shitestyle in 2004. So many faults that marquis failed to fix, but the real disaster was the loose roof skin that rattled in the wind and swift declared as "normal"

we sold it to a trader at about 6 months and made a big loss, but decided never to buy new ever again

Only once.

On retirement I bought a new Autosleeper Ravenna. I had always wanted an Autosleeper as I beloved they were a quality product. This was in 2002.

It was a total disaster for us. As well as a number of niggles we had gas leaks on five separate occasions. We lost faith n it and traded it in within about 15 months.

never thought of the cost (explains why i am divorced lol) started with big american stuff to tow my race car, went through 3 then got divorced so relegated to a 70s vw campervan progressed to a lhd karmann which i had for 10 years then onto my current swift although i retired from racing last year
my parents had a council house , i owned my own house in the 80s but sold it to win a championship ::bigsmile: and have rented ever since, i tried to install the independent same life thinking in my daughter which is probably why she dont talk to me anymore
all this rubbish about inheritance IMHO is a false hope for the kids, i was born poor (according to todays pigeonholes)...had to work ridiculously to waste an obscene amount of money racing

i have bought every van because it fitted my needs/wallet at the time

IMO the worst thing you can do is buy a van to 'keep up with the jones' , ashamed because you think you have the oldest van on the site...........be happy with what you have and be happy for the other owners no matter what they drive(y)

Several Caravans. First M-H was a 27ft Pace Arrow, Imported from South Carolina, Which I converted with 240V Electrics. We took that to Spain for a few years. Traded for a Bigger Pusher. Sold that when we Bought the US Winnebago. Loved all of them. Now we have what SWMBO calls her "dolls house"!! as it`s "only" 25ft. All Motorhome`s have their Small (and large) issues. Same with cars. Don`t regret buying any of them. They all have their place in our lives. To some extent they are a "tool" with which to make the memories with.

The Kids and Grand kids know, there could be Bugger all left. But then they nearly all have more that we have.

No so happy with my model. She has put so much weight

We thought we'd support local industries and ordered our new caravan from a local manufacturer. Oh boy what a mistake!.

Having had that many vans over the last 20 years or so I dont recall regretting buying any of them. I have not lost money on any when sold although I have regretted selling a few. Although have recently bought another fifth wheel outfit I still have the Hymer 754 sitting in the yard as I know I will regret selling that, so keep putting off advertising it. Regarding spending the kids inheritance, that has been increased through shrewd investment since retiring 20 years ago. They will of course have a lot of work on converting everything back to cash as am an avid collector of the unusual.

Us too - a relative asked me the other day had I regretted not having children - er - NO!

Good for you!

I never wanted children and was lucky enough to marry someone of the same mind set.
I’ve certainly never ‘missed’ kids, and babies fill me with horror, my mum was the same but unfortunately for her it was expected of her!
We’ve never regretted a van, and are happy with what we have.
