Sitting here on the beautiful Wild Atlantic Way, being almost a proper FLT and with time on my hands I've been thinking about the TV which runs off a modified sine wave inverter.
Trying to stay self sufficient on solar, the tv isn't helping much.
It's a 22 inch Panasonic, does anyone know if it's possible to run this off 12 volts, bypassing the inbuilt transformer ? Or finding out what voltage it's running on.
Yes I know I could go buy a 12 volt tv, but I'm trying to be a FLT.
TIA

Invertors aren't 100% efficient. But it's probably only costing you 20% extra draw at the most. It's not going to make a massive difference.

TVs are getting more efficient, our new 24" TV uses the same power as our old 18" TV, 1.5 amps through the inverter.

I doubt it's possible to run your TV on 12v without considerable electronic knowledge/experience & circuit diagram. Forget that option.

I agree with this. Have a wander round curry’s and see what 24” TVs are actually going inning from a 12v via a transformer

Domestic TVs that run an external 12v transformer are likely to have tighter voltage requirements than what comes out of a motorhome hab battery.

Modern TVs are all electronic and the guts are all low voltage, might be worth a look at the circuit board to see where the power comes in to see what the transformer output is.
You can then go from there.

They're usually multi tapped transformers, some have about 6 secondary outputs 😳 nightmare.

You've got it wrong, proper FLT spend a fortune on their vans to save a few bob on site fees.

I use a 24" LG. It requires 19v, so I simply fitted a 12v-19v converter, dirt cheap from China via ebay.

We bought a 12-volt TV SuperSonic for our RV, and I've tested everything except the smart card input. Everything works perfectly, including the 12-volt power. When I tested it in the house it found the same number of OTA channels as my expensive Samsung TV. In the RV it found more channels than I expected with the 'portable' antenna. Pros: 12-volt input for RV, built-in DVD, decent remote, numerous inputs so we can use it as a second laptop monitor in the RV.
