I'm not sure I believe that

Dogs are better treated and spoiled rotten in the UK.....many are rescued from countries like Spain and Portugal and greece etc .......the place I adopted jade and Milo from alone sends loads to the UK and they are majority mongrels
Dont know about spoilt,,probably pampered but on a nice day loads of dogs out exercising,,in winter or when its cold none,, that's not looking after a dog..My dogs never ever missed having two proper walks a day every day week in week out.Spaniel on our road hasn't been out of its garden in 2 years..To many irrisponsible owners about.BUSBY.

Nice photos as usual Tam, I take it that's Faro?.

We're travelling that way from September, is it worth a visit, we usually avoid big towns and cities.

I see the same people regularly with their dogs in all weather. One occasion I had to use the satnav on my phone to find my way back as the fog was so thick on the downs. I didn't see anyone that day but I expect they were there.
I don't see many French bulldogs or pugs though, most are mongrels so probably ignored in the popular breed figures. Of course these fashionable breeds are so distorted they probably cant run.

It's actually not that big or at least the old town isn't but worth a visit certainly .......but it's a noisy place due to planes and trains lol .....And I picked a weekend that had a large festival that was on till 2am .

and there was me thinking it looked astonishingly clean, quiet and uncrowded
Yeah I seem to pick times to take photos when it's quiet but very busy last night
There was a sort of festival concert thing on ...music wasn't bad but very loud ....I know I'm getting old but why they need so much bass I never know lol ...could hardly hear the singer's and the van was actually vibrating.

Anyway I'm in quarteria now at the place under the pines on the beach where I first stayed in Portugal last year .....it's also very very busy there must be 50 campers here but surprisingly still bits where you can get a bit of space rather than crammed in like the ones that have been here a long time.

So I've grabbed a spot among the trees for some shade

All being well I'll stay here 3 or 4 days as the beach is great when the sunbathers bugger off and a nice walk along the esplanade ....although we have had to change our walking trends now to go out late evening and early morning as too hot for the dogs daytime

Evening walkies

Man these Portuguese are hard work ...at least in Spain you had the beach to yourself till at least 11am and from around 8.30pm

here they are at the beach sunbathing from 8am I'm not joking and still there at 9. 9.30pm ....I feel like saying ok ya kin feck off now so I can let my dog get a run around.

I'm not sure I would visit Spain and Portugal july and August again ....it really is too busy and too be honest too hot aswell , I prefer when the beaches are quieter ....I wouldn't dream of going and lying on one to sunbathe among that many people you literally can't see the sand during the day.

HI Tam

I am really enhoying the photos. Perfect timing as i am just planning my winter trip. I only have 2/3 months, so thinking Andalucia and Portugal,4 x3 weeks probably. I was thinking of staying at SanLucar or Huelva area, and then moving to Silves/ Alvor way. i think we prefer to use aires this time, as there are likely to be three vans, and it can be like herding cats wildcamping!

I know you aren't an aires person by choice, but if you can recommend any that would be great. I noticed you didn't really rate San Lucar.

Might even bump into you, if you are still out in January. Harvee, my B654 is going strong, and i love the layout. Thanks for the advice, when i was looking.

Hi Karen, sanlucar is a nice town and a beautiful beach so it's worth a visit. I think it depends what you like doing , I've never been one for staying in the same place for weeks as I get bored if nothing new to see or explore , even on a package holiday a week was more than enough for me.

If you have a means like a car or a scooter or willing to use public transport to venture away from the town you're staying in the yes I could see the appeal of having a fixed base for say a few weeks and exploring daytime etc.
But there are so many places to stop I prefer to move every few days even if only 10 miles , you could easily spend 2 to 3 months in Andalucia and the Algarve doing that and wouldn't struggle to find a place as it's basically what I've done and up till 2 days ago I've not paid for water or waste disposal etc. In the Algarve most water is paid for.

I will be back in the UK before January unfortunately. I'll probably head back late November this year.

I love my 654 it suits me way better than the frankia did it's an ideal layout.

Last year I seemed to use my second cassette more , this year I've only used it 3 or 4 times to be honest but again I'm on my own. A couple doing wildcamping then I'd say it's definately a bonus.
I get 4/5 days from one cassette

I'm getting bitten/eaten alive with something here , I'm not sure it's mosquitos if it is they are different from the ones in Spain, I've not seen them and not heard them and getting bitten daytime even in the sun , I have over 50 bites I've got in the last 48 hours:( mostly around neck arms , armpits etc a few on back and stomach but not on legs which is weird as in Spain my calves and ankles were constantly being bitten.

Even antihistamine not stopping the itching :(
I could see and hear mossies in Spain but not sure what these are

Could be sand flys , think they are a type of mosquito

Description
Sandfly is a colloquial name for any species or genus of flying, biting, blood-sucking dipteran encountered in sandy areas.

If they are sandflies then keep your eyes on Milo and Jade. Sandflies cause Leishmaniasis.

Advantix guards against sandflies as well as tick and fleas. Not sure if you can get it in Portugal though.

If it's any consolation, I'm getting bitten a fair bit in England! I've had 2 bites in the same park, walking the dogs, a week apart, but each time they have drawn blood, when I've felt it there has been a tiny trickle of blood, never had anything like that before! They are mutating!!!:devil:
