Could be sand flys , think they are a type of mosquito

Description
Sandfly is a colloquial name for any species or genus of flying, biting, blood-sucking dipteran encountered in sandy areas.
Yeah I thought about sandflies but I'd have expected lots of bites around legs and ankles etc....but mostly around upper body neck armpits shoulders and arms with very few elsewhere

If it's any consolation, I'm getting bitten a fair bit in England! I've had 2 bites in the same park, walking the dogs, a week apart, but each time they have drawn blood, when I've felt it there has been a tiny trickle of blood, never had anything like that before! They are mutating!!!:devil:
2 bites in 2 weeks would be a luxury lol

If they are sandflies then keep your eyes on Milo and Jade. Sandflies cause Leishmaniasis.

Advantix guards against sandflies as well as tick and fleas. Not sure if you can get it in Portugal though.

Yeah they don't seem to be scratching any more than usual and far less than me that's for sure

from Monday 12 August the Portuguese fuel tanker drivers will be starting a strike, it could be called off at the last minute it could be nearly impossible to get fuel in some areas. Last time a lot of people in Lisbon and other cities were unable to get any fuel its better outside city’s. Its illegal to use fuel cans

So why has monzer been banned

Due to a few breaking of rule 1's.

Unauthorised use of the phrase 'repetitive drivel'

Illegal act of calling someone a 'cupcake'

Misuse of memes on the forum. I thought it was quite funny but looking back perhaps it was some what childish.

That's it I think.

I have been keeping an eye on here though but I couldn't see any of the photos when I wasn't signed in so away for a nosey.

Worthy of a new thread to keep those travelling or about to travel in Portugal updated.

They are all going crazy filling their cars up already...massive queues at all the filling stations.
I filled up in Spain and still have over 3/4 tank so I'll be fine for a while as not in a rush to move....I'd hoped I've enough to get to sagres and back to the Spanish border ha ha.

Will she let you check it? May be a grass seed.
I've had a look as much as I can but can't see anything , bathed it bit with a cold wet cloth she's opening it a little bit more but still looks a little puffed up.
It's not weeping or watering etc so I don't think it's infected or anything....I'll see how she is tomorrow hopefully just something irritating her.

So dwellers of Portugal.....can you get tinto de veranno here?

Couldn't find it in Lidl but I'm quite partial and only have half a bottle left

You've done the right thing re Jade's eye Tam, the only slight improvement on what you've done would be to bathe it with salt water rather than plain. It could be anything from a spec of dust or sand or as The Dudess says a grass seed. It could even be bit of a bash from Milo's paw if they have been having a rough and tumble. Main thing is don't panic, would you rush to the doc if you'd got something in your eye? give her 24hours, you would know if it was serious coz you are a seriously doting Dad (y) i don't know if they still sell "optrex" , but a small bottle of that wouldnt go amiss in your first aid cupboard.

re Tinto de Verano, I've seen quite a lot of the locals here in the bar at lunch time will have a Tubo (beer glass) with ice about half filled with red wine then topped up with Casera (lemonade).
something I think I heard on the radio the other day said Tinto de Verano should be made with cheap red wine, Casera, and Vermouth.

All the toys were out today in villamoura ....you have to laugh at some of the smug looks some guys give when you're taking a pic of their car though .....I'm a petrol head I like the style and the engineering , I'm not impressed by it's value or by the poser stood grinnings beside it's wallet, wealth or over compensating. It may well be a status symbol but that's never impressed me , I'm more impressed by someone who's BUILT a car than someone who simply went and bought one.

Still there were a few nice cars there .....I wouldn't want to own any of them but nice to look at.

And then a cute picture of Milo relaxing

Hope Jade's eye is a bit better this morning. I've just remembered that an old fashioned remedy was to bathe it with lukewarm tea - apparently Chamomile is best. This suggests holding a tea bag over the eye for several minutes, but I guess Jade won't stay still long enough for this.

"Caffeinated teas help constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling, while herbal teas(especially chamomile) contain anti-irritants that soothe redness and inflammation. Steep 2 bags of your choice of tea in hot water for three to five minutes. Let cool until the bags are comfortably warm to the touch. "

When our horses get eye infections I use Golden Eye Ointment - the human eye treatment. It gives good results on minor eye infections. I assume it's safe to use on dogs?

I was trying to remember the name of that stuff, my mum always had some when I was a kid, always getting eye infections then.

We were told that there was an agreement between Portugal and Lidl, whereby they are only allowed to sell Portuguese wine. We have looked and cannot find any made in other countries, someone here might be able to tell us otherwise. If that is the case you won’t find what you are looking for in there.

So I've just arrived in albufera, I popped in to the garage that did the clutch on franky last year to get a price for doing a cambelt kit and a service on Toby....been quoted about €300 for cambelt and €180 for service so think I'll get that done on my way back from sagres before heading north east.
