In your opinion What are the top 5 British Motorhomes, what are the top 5 European Motorhomes And which Motorhomes are the worst please ?

Have you read the motorhome buyers guide available from the resources section ?
It'll give you a valuable insight into the range of motorhomes and their differences.

Mine's the best, it's a Pug Boxer converted in Wales, to my design - so it's the best British AND the best European - end of story?

The best one is the one that suits you, some might be better built than others, some might have a better spec but they might also be twice or three or even ten times the price so are they really better.

Many years ago somebody defined quality to me as, "a quality product is one that meets the customers requirements" as we are all so individual in our requirements that would suggest that there is no such thing as a best or worst.

Briefly but thought maybe asking through a post might help give me insight for the van we might buy.

May I suggest that have a look at as many mohos as possible, make a shortlist & post that & your rationale on here for comments

My own moho is designed to carry motorbikes, so probably very different from your requirements. For me, choosing a van as a base that was more important (it wasn't that difficult: Mercedes & VWs were rust buckets, Fiats have a cambelt, so the answer, for me at the time, was a Peugeot)

So Cass18 if this exercise is to help you identify your ideal van rather than just a hypothetical best/worst scenario you need to start with your own personal requirements and part of that has to be do you have £25k to spend or £250k, for a given price bracket would you prefer a quality older van or a new van.

Then the all important what do you want from the van, where do you want to go, how do you want to use it, do you want/need a fixed bed, do you want a garage for bikes scooter car etc if not how will you get about?

Try listing your basic / minimum requirements, budget, type of travelling you plan to do, campsites or wild camping, European / GB, number of passengers, driving license ie C1, any other minimum requirements, and I'm sure you'll get some suggestions for Vans to look at.

The best motorhome is the one that have the best compromises for YOU. That will not be the same as the best one for somebody else because we are all different. That is why there are so many different motorhomes available. For example we like a European made A class with Euro lounge and twin beds over a large garage. Others hate that sort of motorhome and go for something very different. It is not that one is "better" than the other, it is just about taste, opinions and prejudices.

As an example, when I was looking for my first motorhome I was looking for a 6.5m A class Hymer with end kitchen and bathroom, drop down bed and long settee. We ended up buying a 7.2m Adria C class with twin beds and garage. Did we get it wrong? Yes and no. We realised we liked the basic layout of twin beds and garage but wanted the A class and in a newer form. Hence what we have now.

You need to do your research carefully and look at all types makes and layouts of motorhome. On the ones that look interesting try them out for an hour or so by pretending to use the toilet, shower, kitchen, beds etc. I am afraid that there is no real shortcut.

This may or may not help but its the Finnish Couple (Who own and live full time in an Adria Panel Van) at a MoHo Show and they are looking around various MoHo's.......Did I mention Hymer is a great manufacturer, probably the best but others will disagree I am sure ?

I would suggest Hymer is the best European manufacturer.......but someone will be along shorty to say otherwise ?
Well I would hate for you to be disappointed by nobody challenging that statement ;) for sure Hymer have a massive range of alternatives to suit all budgets, luckily they include N+B in the group so they the Flair as a contender for the best garage.

Best build would have to go to one of the mega buck German vans like Vario or Volkner but if you are on a budget MORELO, Concorde, Phoenix and again N+B have to be in there with a shout.

Best bathroom would have to go to etc etc, you see we are back to there is not such a thing as best or worst van as each one will have a best and worst bit so the trick is to find one that suits you with fewest worst bits and as many best as you can muster.

Pre 2006 Hymers build quality was pretty good anything after the standards dropped imo. I wouldnt touch a British built van with a barge pole.

Each to their own , but we are on our second Autotrail , one used one new and we haven’t had any of the problems that people mention . I have seen reports of some Hymers with water ingress issues though . So as has been said already the best van is the one which suits your needs / pocket best .
Having said all that we quite fancy a Burstner next ?

It was our first choice but then almost got our fingers burnt ! We had wanted winterised but prob decided it’s not the main reason as might go to southern Spain during winter or further south again. So really interested in best but also which ones to avoid

I can see your getting your home work done but in all truthfulness it's so personally specific that it will very completely.
Points I would look for

Price your prepared to pay
Payload
Storage
Winterised
Double check no damp.

And yes I still think a good 584 if you can get one is hard to beat in that size van.
Good luck with your Search. ?

When we were at the thinking stage of buying a motorhome there simple factors limited our choice. Not Seval based, bed long enough for a 6 ft person to lie down in and cost.
The coach build we hired in the UK put us off French built quality and Fiats. The van we hired in New Zealand was simpler, better built and Ford based.
Taking a tape measure around shows and dealers soon made us realise the majority of the human race are less than 6ft long lying down.
Not wanting a Seval based van within our budget was limiting but it did mean we ended up buying something old enough to be better built and easier to look after.
Our choice for both vans was Autosleeper.

Burstner, Dethleffs, Hymer are good.
Always thoroughly check them over yourself though or have an independent inspection.
Buying with some finance will give you a bit more protection if bought from a Dealer.
Lots of SCAM SALES on ebay and elsewhere to be wary of.
It's your hard earned money at the end of the day.
