Wing wont start (1 Viewer)

After coming back from Spain i never bothered with the Wing until yesterday morning.
It would not start.
Plenty of life in the battery but the engine just would not turn.
Charged battery to make sure it was topped up.
Engine will not turn at all, all the electrics come on, not turning.
YES i have made sure the kill switch is in the right position.
Any ideas.
Looks like it's gonna be a van pick up to take and get mended.

Give it the John Cleese treatment,thrash it with a stick…….or in your case a scaffold pole. . It worked for him on that red 1100.

Are all the other electrics working normally?
I had a similar problem whilst riding through Spain,from memory it was one of the relays under the seat,talking 1800 here.took a better electrician than I to work it out.
Hope yours is an easy fix.

Is there a click from the solenoid?
Double-check side stand and kill switch. Operate a few times.

Not sure if it helps but I had a similar problem on my Africa Twin, two wires in the ignition switch had rusted and come loose.

Could be but i wont be going there. Is that likely on a 19 plate bike that's very rarely wet other than washing?

Gotta say that sounds like sidestand switch or kill switch. Or faulty start button. These things are usually sealed units but a squirt of switch cleaner might help.

Now then, WD40...............i'm off into the garage now.

Try to use a proper contact cleaner or straight isopropanol rather than WD40 which is often snake venom to electrics. The lubricant coats the contacts and frequently increases resistance rather than improving matters. That coating then seems to thicken over time attracting even more dust and muck.

He hasn't got that far yet - the starter doesn't operate.
I'd say dirty contacts in the loom or at the switch which happens with the indicators on my bike when unused for a few weeks but squirt of switch cleaner has cured it. Cheap and nasty switch contacts.

I agree with that. I have used WD but the warning is good. Edited my post.

A friend had a similar problem with his 1800, it was the starter relay not pulling in. Unfortunately Wings have that many interlocks/relays it's very difficult to diagnose the problem without all the test equipment. Sorry I can't be of any more help.
