You can get proper contact cleaner from Toolstation or Screwfix as well as electrical wholesalers. Interestingly, WD40 do a branded one but any labeled contact cleaner will do the job.

If I had a tenner for every bit of electronics I have had to clean over the years that's been given the WD40 treatment, it would make a very useful amount. Would you use washing up liquid in your washing machine, or more relevant, put olive oil in an engine because it's 'all oil'?

Yes, thank you
Gear position indicator switch not working via clutch being not engaged (serious) or not enough bling on it  If all the lights etc are coming on it will be one of the fail safe switches as many have mentioned, its a case of trial and error, start at the kill switch and work your way through to the sidestand switch, clean all the contacts (isopropyl alcohol) and check for resistance/ continuity

It's a DCT (automatic) so no clutch.

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
It does sound like the logic is your problem as all the dash lights are ready to go, side stand switch fault, kill switch fault.
Try running a live straight to the starter solenoid, and please don't use WD40, though you can buy WD40 Specialist Contact Cleaner.

Been busy this afternoon so not been able to do anything.
In the morning i will be phoning Bill Smiths Honda to collect the bike and sort it.
Can't be doing all this spannering stuff.
Thanks for all the advice on trying to sort it.
It's a 19 plate and 8,000 miles on so getting a bit old now. Might get a new one.

You obviously have more faith in Smiths than I do, wouldn't the RAC or any other recovery lot you might be with be a better option?

Better off getting an older one, fewer electronics = less chance of going wrong in my book. Might even get one with a kick start

After charging the battery did you use a multimeter to check it was holding its charge? A low battery might be enough to power the dash lights but not enough to energise the starter solenoid.

I like that statement (I don’t have faith in any dealer)
but you are taking it there as you yourself can’t fix it 🤔
I'm open to any alternative suggestions. And no i don't have faith in dealers, BUT, they WILL get the bike started...................i think/hope.
Oh and i'm not taking it, they will collect it:LOL:(y)
