Saw this in Croydon a few years ago on someones motor and found this photo whilst looking at old pictures, always wondered why you need all these ariels, any ideas and is it legal

Well each to their own ? and if they aren't hurting anybody else?? I always think the Internet killed CB radio, so I don't know why they bother but it's a passion I suppose.

Scanmast on the back ,ain't a lightweight. Must play havoc with payload. Plus a compressor to lift it hidden somewhere .

It’s legal if you have a license.

Its one of those TV detector vans, checking all addresses for non licence holders:giggle:
To think all these years later, how we fell for that TV licencing advert:eek:
My late mum, never bought a colour license either, the B&W one was dear enough she thought:giggle:

CB may have died but Amateur Radio preceded it and lives on. Radio Amateurs have access to much more of the available spectrum than CB has and at (legal) power levels 100x greater on many bands. The Internet is incorporated in many transmission modes used by Amateurs. You can't bounce CB off the moon or talk to an Amateur on the ISS with a mobile phone. :giggle:

Possibly to try to find a channel with something remotely interesting to watch on the telly....

Probably need a bigger set up than that tho!

Probably set up so that he can see the parking attendant approaching, and escape rapidly before he gets fined for taking up 4 spaces.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::rolleyes:

All legal providing it’s all well secured, no part of the antenna/s are protruding beyond the widest part of the van otherwise it’s classed as an unsafe load.

Yes it’s Amateur Radio and I used to be one years ago.

Started off in 1979 on the CB when it first started out in the UK and after a few years progressed to Amateur Radio with a full call sign A class.

Regards.

Its an early version of the scanners currently in use at airports.

He can watch people walking past the van and see them without clothes ?
