Seriously considering a new sat nav.
A friend of mine has the Avtex Tourer Two (made by Garmin) which looks to be a good piece of kit.
Trying to research it and I see that the online manual for it also covers the Garmin 780.
Halfrauds have an offer on The Garmin Camper 780 MT-D at £288-63 whilst the best online price for the Avtex tourer Two is around £325.
Anyone know what the differences are considering the almost £40 difference.
Many thanks
Graham

I’ve got the tourer one which is the same as the Garmin 770lmtd.
The Halfords price for the 780 seems good.
I’m pleased with mine but then I bought it almost new from ebay at £160, so worth keeping an eye on eBay.

Don't think there is any material difference between them but somebody may correct me.
We've used a 760 Camper for a few years now and found it to be very good but with the usual, for any sat nav, minor glitches.

Tomtom camper far superior in terms of live traffic but woeful on 3rd party points of interest management.

Depends on your budget. I spent about £40 on an XGody 886 - which is about the cost of a map update on the TomTom Camper that I had previously. The XGody is brilliant value for money and hasn't let me down in the 2 years that I have had it.
If the XGody hardware fails then I can replace it several times and still have paid less than the cost of a Garmin or TomTom!

We have the garmin camper/truck version, still takes you down tight roads even when set for motorhome. Realise not 100% but most trips can be tight.

What's with this budget and payment stuff???

Why not use Waze or Google Maps associated with Search for Sites, which will use either of the former to navigate to your chosen 'site' if you need it.

I find those services excellent on an Android phone and cost nothing as far as I remember except for the data charge on the phone.

Waze really came into its own when travelling on a Belgian motorway using its navigation to a location. There was a blockage on the motorway which Waze directed me around using side roads with no problem and no intervention from me.

The Avtex Tourer Two is £299.99 on amazon which includes caravan and motorhome club information... on their site with 10% member discount it £332,49!

We've just bought one and a hard case from amazon.

I.M.O. Only two dedicated Motorhome sat/navs to consider. Garmin Camper and TomTom Camper. Both the dogs B's. The Garmin has more options.
My Tom Tom was certainly bollocks all right, but nothing to do with dogs.
I wouldn't have another if you gave me it for nothing!

That's a pity! you must have have got a duff one ! No chance of me giving you one for nothing so that can be ruled out too. I suggest you try the Garmin, you might get lucky.

Not a chance, google maps and printed trucker maps for me.

I don't want to get lucky, I want to get home.

I was in Halford yesterday and the price of the Garmin Camper 780 has been reduced to £259...

I think it was about £277 just before Christmas.

I’m thinking to get one but wonder whether anyone has experience of the unit fitting the central tablet holder that comes as standard on the FIAT cab?
I think the height and width are fine. I’m not sure about the depth of it, including the power connector?

In the end I found one on Amazon for £249.
Tried it out locally and liked the result.
Much better fitting to my windscreen than my old Snooper.
Possible only downside is it’s not as loud as the old Snooper.
I may need hearing aids

Halfords link now says £360 for the Harmon unit?

Our Garmin is mounted on the top of the dash in the right hand corner where it only blocks the view of the pillar. I stuck a pad to the dashboard to give a flat / smooth surface for the satnav mount.

We used to have it on the opposite end of the dashboard where the navigator could programme it on the move but it was harder for the driver to hear in competition with the radio (maybe I need a satnav hearing aid as well)

As LL mentioned, the sat nav on your link is £359 and is the garmin camper 780 MT-D. However there is a garmin camper 780 EU MT-D on Amazon for £279. So whats the difference between the two, anyone know?

Either way I cannot find either for £259 nor £249! :giggle:

I'm considering one of these so would like some clarification please. :giggle:

We have found no matter which Sat Nav you use, people still say they get taken down unsuitable roads, we have always when plotting a route checked it on a paper map just to make certain we don't get taken were we don't want to be.

Our 760 camper is brilliant as long as you remain in control.

I do believe it’s possible to route the sound via your vehicle radio/sound system, I did this when I used a Snooper as the inbuilt sound was almost non existent when actually traveling but once I routed it as above it was seriously loud if needed.

Checked today and cannot see it now under £279

Would recommend using Tom Tom truck nav whilst using it in truck mode will take you a little bit further in terms of mileage but in 10 years of using one in a hgv and a Motorhome it has never screwed me up anywhere also if you have a smart phone and download the MyDrive app you can store all your points of interest in your phone then select and send to the sat nav for routing

I've just bought a second hand Garmin with a built in dashcam. I think its brilliant other than you cant enter vehicle specifics. Past experience has shown however that even with that facility you can get taken down some 'unsuitable' roads. The garmin has lifetime maps and updates free, so for £75 I think it's well worth the money. The dashcam feature is well worth considering. It also has bluetooth for the phone and displays text messages. You can even voice control your destination though it doesn't like too much of an accent lol.

Did have the Xgody 886 but noticed you could get a bigger screen with Xgody X4 and updated the the maps on the Nozatec Facebook page for a total cost of £57 for world maps if needed. What’s not to like about that. Can now read the screen without needing glasses.
