When Is A Campervan A Motorhome? (1 Viewer)

We have a 6 metre Globecar Globescout which is plenty big enough for the two of us and our particular needs. Whenever I say 'campervan' to other people they automatically assume that it must be small like a VW California......

We have all the same facilities as a 'motorhome' of similar size, so are we a motorhome or a campervan?

My son has a VW T5 which he has converted into what I like to call....... well, err..... a Campervan! However he can't stand up in it, shower in it to go to the toilet in it.....

Now, if I say we have a 'motorhome' then other people automatically assume we have a monster of a truck with a Luton top, perhaps 8 metres long with maybe 6 wheels!

Get my drift here? What am I driving?

Like yours you can stand up, shower, go to the loo etc. But when people see it they always say oh we thought you meant a smaller one.

I still think of PVCs as campervans and coachbuilts as motorhomes. A false distinction probably, as I know many PVCs are bigger than some MHs, but for me it's something about the fact that a campervan is still something easily recognisable as the van it once was.

When we had a cranky rusty old Type 2 VW Kombi it was a 'campervan', and motorhomes were those big white boxy things with overcab beds that posh people drove around in.

Now we have a big white boxy thing with an overcab bed we call it a 'motorhome' to help distinguish us from those freeloading hippies and surf bums who drive around in campervans. :)

I understand it is related to the facilities on-board. Generally, a camper van does not have a shower or loo plumbed in - a motor home does. A camper van has cooking & sleeping facilities (which differentiates it from a van)

What you need is the German approach, if one word does not fit string a load together.

Been meaning to ask for ages, please could you tell me

1) What is/does PVC stand for?
2) What are the different classifications? What would an Adria Coral 680SL be?

@beacons564 I like big bus thing, think I might use that. ::bigsmile:
