As this arrangement seems impossible to find in a PVC I was wondering whether anyone made a small coachbuilt with this arrangement, an overcab bed is out as I can't see the wife safely climbing down a ladder in the middle of the night whereas the drop downs go a lot lower.

Hi
I dont think you can have a front drop down bed in a coach built. They are a feature of a-class,

Get yourself an old ambulance and build it to your own design

It would be difficult to fit a conventional front drop down bed into anything other than an A class. You are restricted by the width of the driving area, it is not just the length of the bed, you also need room for the lift mechanism. The only way it could be fitted is if it lay front to rear, when raised it would cover a lot of the roof making it rather dark inside. There are rear and centre drop down bed coachbuilt vans. I have seen a rear drop down in a PAnel Van Conversion. My Pilote, as in my little picture, has a drop down bed, being an albeit small A class the whole front section is wider. This width is not a problem, in some ways it helps as if the front will go through a gap, so will the rear. Most coachbuilt vans are wider behind the cab section.

Have you looked at the chausson range?

Not sure if they offer a rear lounge layout but they do coachbuilts with electric beds at the front and I think maybe a Bailey?

Hymer and Frankia do a nice layout with rear lounge and drop down singles at the front with access via proper steps, not sure the length though. We also viewed a Burstner with rear lounge and drop down bed above, the lounge area was pretty impressive, again not sure on length.

They did do one with a rear lounge and drop down bed over the rear lounge. It was a very short van if I remember correctly - maybe sub 6 metres.

They have some innovative ideas don't they.

Wasn't sure if I'd seen a burstner as well lorger, they all blend into one after a while 😂

Our Chausson 510, 6mtres long has a drop down bed at the front, with.lounge underneath it.
comes down on belts.
will go down to the lounge seats. still might need a little portable step to get down , depending on mobility.

previous equivelent model was the “best of 10“ , newer versions, same dimensions, 520 and 530.

( 500 had a drop down bed over a fear lounge, in one corner, with bathroom in other corner, but seem to be discontinued.

I’m sure I looked at a Mobilvetta K yacht with a drop-down bed which was about 6metres but can’t remember the seating arrangement.

Seriously I did a lot of thinking about this when I did mine for the simple reason it had a wheelchair winch at the front of the ambulance and I do like to find a use for things I have already got   but the main problem I couldn't get past was blocking the side door when it would be down, but if I ever get round to doing another I shall try to work two drop down single bunk beds one above the other worked with the same cables..
Not seen one but can't see any problems with it.

Rapido used to do an A-class with a rear lounge and front drop down bed but whether they still do I haven't a clue.

Just found out there are two ... Rapido 9010DF also Rapido 8094DF

Can I ask why you want a rear lounge?

Thanks for all replys guys ang girls but we think it's got to be a PVC otherwise I might as well sell the RV. Had a look at an Autocruise Swift Select 164 today with a French bed I think that would work for us.

In the rv the wife can stretch out on the sofa and rear lounges which usually double up as a bed will let her do that, front lounges are never as big.

We looked at downsizing from an A class to a PVC, but couldn't get away with the narrow passage from front to back and the cramped front lounge (our opinion and I know others will disagree).

In the end we went for a Chausson 530 which has a lounge as big as the A Class in a sub 6m length. The bed comes down from the ceiling to sit really low on the top of the lounge seat cushions.

Works well for us.

LHD Globebus here ...

Auto sleeper, rear lounge, Ian...

Got to make the beds up... but small enough to use as an every day car...

Narrow`ish.....

Not much bigger than a large car..

Only 6.3 mtrs long...

Ok to use as a daily car..

We went for the 2 longditude beds with a permanent table.. and kitchen at the rear...

And Judy can and will drive it...

Beat me to it.!(y) I went through the Floorplan`s of hundreds looking for ours, though in the end it was a front lounge and French bed won the day.

Have you not got the recliner in the Winnie?. We had one just by the entrance door?. As well as the captains chairs up front?.

Just a thought, Have I not seen a Coach-built with a centre drop down bed?. A bit like the old Safari Trek, Style?

We have a Burstner Ixeo 585, just short of 6m with a drop down bed from the ceiling and large lounge area. Suits us to a T and we usually s pend 4 months in her at a time touring Europe but obviously not this year.

No rock and roll sofa one side table the other, the wife can easily stretch right out on it, and with the slide out, I can put a sun lounger in the middle, RV's spoil you. ::bigsmile:

I can't remember the name of the motorhome converter, but we watched a YouTube of a new Mercedes Sprinter conversion with a drop down bed at the front and a u shaped lounge at the back. It was from a motorhome show in Europe. But the conversion was amazing. With the dropdown bed, like A class have, it slept 4 people. I'll see if I can find it and post the link....very expensive though.

Contrary to a number of posts here saying you wont find a front drop down bed on a coachbuilt, you will.
Adria do them, our friend has one. I dont know if you will find a rear lounge version as theirs is a rear washroom.

I love our 9094 but I don't think its the answer here :( Mainly because the front bed doesn't drop down particularly low: you need to climb into it via the sofa or a ladder....and according to the first post:
I can't see the wife safely climbing down a ladder in the middle of the night whereas the drop downs go a lot lower.
Also they're not small MHs.......definitely significantly bigger than a PVC.
The rear lounge does also convert into a bed, but if you're going to make the bed up every night then there are probably lots of smaller options out there.

I think the OP was speaking about a long ladder to an overcab bed (ie luton style) hence why he said that drop downs go lower ... with all drop down ones need you to either use a little step/ladder or the sofa/seat to get into them so I'm sure he's aware of that.

Just 'musing' but ... the Campscout Revolution ... I wonder if it could be adapted at the rear to provide a lounge rather than 2 single beds then the upper bed could be lowered at night and put back up during the day ... jezport what do you think would it work?
