Went to Jonic to pick up our new mattress , foggy on the M6 but no probs , approaching M53 offa the M56 when I lost power ( engine warning light came on ) and I’m now in limp mode , max 30 mph and I’m driving on the hard shoulder with hazards on .
I decide to limp to Cheshire Fair Oaks and call the AA , they come and plug in the OBD2 and it comes up with no fault but shows that at the time of the incident the battery was showing no volts !
The AA man can only think that this reading was a glitch as was the limp home anomaly, can anyone else come up with a theory for this ?
Warning light was cleared but as you can appreciate I’m not looking forward to the next “ glitch “ !
Cheers .

Sounds like a loose connection to me.
Which may be very difficult to find.
Probably worth booking up a visit to an auto electrician to do the vehicle equivalent of a PAT test

We had similar... driving along 60mph, no issues at all, happy singing along. Suddenly we go into limp mode. I parked up, waited 5 mins, and restarted it. All was well.

4000 miles later and I was still expecting it to randomly go into limp mode, but it never happened again.

I’m booked into Durley Garage on the Wirral after New Year for them to interrogate the van , they were great on the phone offering advice post incident . 👍

My previous Fiat did the same. I switched off and switched back on, both the speedo and the tacho went crazy going all the way to max then back to min repeatedly. All the warning lights were flashing/flickering and it wouldn't even attempt to start.

I thought I was royally screwed. Turned it off and left it for 10 minutes, In truth I went in the back to get a coffee to calm myself down. Gave it another try and it was all fine again. Was expecting it to happen again but it never did. I had the van for 6 more years after that and many thousands of miles.

sometimes computers flip out for no apparent reason was what I put it down to. Equivalent of a human brain fart.

ummmm who mentioned it was a Fiat, i had similar issue with Rapido Merc, turn out it was a clutch switch.

Absolutely.. my 1986 reg. car has never gone into limp mode.
That's because it's a proper car and nothing like the crap they churn out now. Treasure it for as long as you can.

if you put Viagra in the diesel does it prevent limp mode?

its because they didn't fit them as standard back then Les

if i remember correctly all 1986 cars had to have limp modes fitted as an optional extra

Its not who you know its what you know, Al :xrofl:
This is the nearest my car has to a 'computer'.. no chance of limp mode.
