It is renewal time for the Tracker in the Moho. Rang the company and have been told I need a new van battery as the battery is not keeping the tracker charged enough:eek:. I have expressed my surprise at this and the girl who has taken the call said she is going to speak to someone technical about this, and get back to me:whistle:. I have also rang my local dealer who services the moho and they are also going to speak to someone technical:sneaky:.

To say I am flabbergasted:confused: and taken back by this news is a gross understatement. The van is less than three years old, at present it is on trickle charge and the charger is reading 12V with no issue. Except for when I am away and on hook up, and when I arrive back home the battery is on trickle charge and the leisure on hook up.

So can any one of you assist here, as far as I see it the battery should be in good health.

If your battery is on charge and reading 12v it is completely discharged and almost certainly faulty. Have you checked the battery itself with a meter?

It will be a battery inside the tracker. They replaced ours in the "Tracker Retrieve"

battery starts the van fine straight forward, no blip, the reading is '12v strong'. I have been quoted £190 for a battery!!! And she reckons it is the main battery, for I did quiz her about an internal battery, however she was insistent it is the mh batt. . .

She doesn't know what she's on about. Perhaps the tracker is sensing a low voltage, but it doesn't mean you go replacing the starter battery willy nilly. It needs looking at by an engineer.

Anyone who quotes you £190 for a 'battery' (without knowing it's capacity), is, quite frankly out to get you, or more correctly, your money.

I assume this reading is from your control panel ? It is not possible to accurately measure a battery when their is a load on it and if you want an accurate reading disconnect it, let it settle for a couple of hours and then measure with a volt meter. If your battery is starting your engine it's not knackered. Do you think it's possible the super dooper highly trained specialist engineer who has found a fault with your tracking system is incompetent ???? £190.00 for a battery! well that will be £90.00 for the battery and £100.00 to fit it. I would ask the engineer to explain how and why your knackered battery is starting your engine.

Oh I agree with you both. It will be cheaper to buy a new tracker and have it fitted.

I will wait and see if they come back, and if they dont, I will email them accordingly asking for a breakdown of parts and labour, and actually why I need a new main batt.

There seems to be some ambiguity as to which battery is being declared 'faulty' but, either way, I'd be looking for a cause. Merely replacing the effect will only delay a later repeat of this experience.
Don't embark on anything before you understand better.

just been speaking with tracker, apparently the tracker has its own battery, it should last around 5yrs. So this means i have to have the whole tracker unit replaced for that amount.

I can do without the expense at this time as I have the insurance/habitation & service coming up in early January (4th)

I'd give your insurance company a ring. I didn't renew our tracker after the first free year as it made no difference to the policy price.

12v on charge voltage suggests a bad battery by the way

Can they still see your van?? can it still be tracked?? Something to confirm because if they cant, then if the motorhome is stolen then your insurance company will not pay out if they get any wiff of this!

We all know how insurance companies may look at getting out of paying in this wonderful world we live in.. and more to the point if it isn't working and it is taken then we will all be sat here looking at another post saying "Help my van has been stolen and it has no tracker etc"..

Unless of course you have a decent motorhome alarm, if so then just sit back and enjoy your Christmas.

Also I would take my engine battery out as really easy on your van, pop it down to my local battery specialist and get it tested.

Takes 5 mins and if all comes back good then either yes the internal battery backup battery in the unit or more probably a dodgy 12v feed or loose earth if they are getting insufficient battery voltage reading at the monitoring centre?

I would say reading through your engine battery will be fine however.. unless as suggested above if your battery is on charge the 12v reading is low..

I have a similar battery tender on my motorbike, the battery is good, and the readings are similar, “12v strong”, if it was weak, the sensor in the tender would indicate weak.

I wrote on here some where, that “a fool a and his money are easily parted”, so I said okay after a very long chat with the technition. So am I a fool, ha, well possibly, but I would rather be covered on the way of thinking of “just in case”.

Hi all, Van battery is good (brilliant in fact). The tracker has its own battery and I was miss informed by the young lady on the phone. Now all sorted out, new tracker in.

So if someone does decide to take it away, then it will be tracked down, all our valuable will be removed, MH would be inspected for any damage etc. and if clean it will be kept, if not, well, a decision will be taken at that time, should it occur.

Strange thing but my van had a tracker fitted to it but I don't pay the subscription for it.
It was on the van when I bought it and when I insured the van with safeguard I told them it had one fitted but It wasn't activated as I didn't pay for it.
Her words were it's okay as long as it has the tracker fitted the tracking company are legally obliged to give the information to the insurer and the police....they just don't have to give it to me if I don't pay for it.
But basically whether I pay the annual fee or not the tracker is still active.

It also made zero difference to my policy price whether it was active or not
