I'm wanting to connect a dab radio to the van speakers. I don't want one of the FM transmitter variety because I don't want to have the dab aerial stuck on the windscreen and wires hanging all over the place. And I certainly can't be arsed fitting a new head unit :D2

Our Peugeot boxer x250 has got the usb socket in the glove box, has anybody tried the USB to jack plug lead? I'm thinking I could connect our Roberts solar Dab via it's headphone socket.

Never knew such a thing existed, where does the USB in the glove box go to?

From the Ebay advert
Allows you to connect your audio devices to the USB port on your PC/ Laptop, PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ITEM CANNOT WORK ON CAR STEREO

so no I don't think this will work.

Isn't the headphone output an analogue signal, whereas the USB is a digital protocol?

Hi it links straight to the head unit, its a bit strange though.

I can connect my ipod nano and play it on the head unit as if its a cd playing but i will not play my larger ipod which has a lot of music on it shame really.
Going back to the original post ,i Haven,t seen a cable like that, don,t know if that would be compatible ,as most say they are for charging or data transfer.
I await your investigation ,good luck.
Cheers Cris.

Do not think you will find such a cable - headphone socket is Audio signal where as USB is a digital system
you would probably be better connecting via Bluetooth if that is available

Also UK digital doesn't work abroad as they use a different system so streaming is a better option to listen to your favourite programmes

My car has the USB socket in a cubby hole below the radio. (integrated regular FM radio)
The handbook states some USB devices won't work... Some memory sticks/flash drives etc as the circuitry isn't compatible.

Also, using as a low powered charging port is not recommended.

The stereo, if you plug in an ipod touch it plays automatically, or if not you select 'media' on the stereo.

Yeah I read that but wondered if anyone had tried it. It must be for something otherwise why would the lead be manufactured. I might risk 2 quid and try it

Check the model of your head unit online. Most have a usb and 3.5mm aux input in the rear of the unit. I plugged a phono lead into mine and plugged the output of the tv into it so we have tv sound coming from the radio speakers

Or you can connect your smartphone to the usb and stream digital radio from your phone. Uses data though.

That's the idea. USB is to play media stored on a stick or dongle. If you want to play DAB radio why not plug your phone into it if you have the data.

Yes might do, I read radio uses about 55Mb per hour. Just thought I'd see if I could connect to the usb socket first though.

I would have thought it would have a 3.5mm jack somewhere.

Yes it does you just need to change to the "L" band but it is very patchy in France they still haven't rolled it out properly.

USB is a Universal Serial Bus similar to the old RS232 cable. The data is transmitted in Digital Form where your radio will be sending its data in Analog form. If you have a 3.5 jack on the radio there should be a similar one on the MH Radio / SatNav so a 3.5 Jack to 3.5 Jack would work.

You could fit a Bluetooth dongle to the Radio 3.5 Jack Port and a similar one to the MH 3.5 Jack Socket. That will convert Analog signal to Bluetooth Digital and then back again. If your Radio / SatNav has Aux Bluetooth Input it may work with just the dongle on the Radio but don't hold your breath it does not always work.

Hi Vickysponge
Did you ever find your cable ? As I have been trying to connect a Sony Walkman in the same way .
The cable is available with a 3.5mm jack to a USB but supplier is unable to confirm if it would work
Thank you

Sorry Vickysponge ! message was meant for Richard and Ann
