Travellers on Calais aire

    Arrived in Calais Wednesday eve, to find the many Calais aire by the dock full as the one by the marina was occupied by a fair.
    Many of the spots were taken up by caravans that belonged to travellers who were heading to a wedding in Germany,
    I'm the morning the attendant came to collect the money. They told him to f**k off.
    Attendant called the police who promptly arrived and removed them with drawn firearms.
    Great start to our journey,

    "Exciting" I would have said, at least you know that the police will take no nonsense from folk... it would have made me feel safer if anything ..enjoy the rest of your holiday

    It's a pity England can't do that to remove travellers ,maybe then we could stop more places.

    do you really think they would shoot someone for not paying?
    we do have armed police in uk . possibly more than you imagine .

    I remember seeing a protest in Germany when someone parked their vw beetle to block a road. The German riot police arrived by helicopter, marched over to the car and picked it up and threw it into the ditch. If that had happened in the UK they would still be having public enquiries 10 years later.

    That comment may be tongue in cheek but, unfortunately, is a true reflection of the law here.
