Some while ago the key for my fresh water filler cap jammed in the lock. Eventually I was able to get it out but the actual lock mechanism was slightly damaged. I then bought a removal key and was able to extract the lock mechanism from the cap. Knowing the lock / key number I had high hopes of just buying a new lock. I don't just want another one as the same key works all the external locks so another one would mean another key. The problem is I can't find a lock supplier. Load of people supply keys but not locks. Can any of you wonderful people point me to a supplier please?

PS Carthago and their UK agents have been less than useless.

I had a similar problem, in the end gave up asvit was easier to buy a complete lock set for all the locks with a new key and change them all to the new key.

Hi Phill,

Where did you get a complete set of lock and keys?

Good old fleabay but it was one of the caravan / motor home parts people.

There are loads on there with a variety of different number of locks

Carthago used to supply an additional set of barrels with each van, just in case this sort of thing happened. The problem is that you've long-since forgotten where you safely stored them away by the time one is needed.
You could search outlets who sell the caps and ask them if they have one with a matching key - but I doubt you'll get much joy, I didn't.
Do we really need a lock on the water filler cap (I can't imagine anyone wanting to siphon any off)?

I think you are being uncharitable towards Carthago and their UK agents (but their feelings may be mutual).

Is there much evidence of that - or is it imagined?
I'd like to think that my fellow citizens would find better ways to amuse themselves but those who wild in ways that may upset could feel the need for such protection.

My 2019 Carthago (July build) came with spare lock barrels.

When my gas locker lock became faulty I swapped it with the one on the Thetford cassette locker door. I can't imagine anyone wanting to siphon that one.

Likes like Carthago expect issues then, ................... the product or the user ? :whistle2:
The damage is usually when Scrote and Co. have paid a visit or Scrote Junior thought a squirt of super glue would be funny.

Sadly, I think that may have been the case. :xsad:

North West Keys in Bootle Liverpool, same keyed the locks on my Classic car for me. Try NWKeys.co.uk

Strangely I thought that mine did also but I have hunted high and low and not been able to find any. The law of sod is that they will turn up just after I find a replacement. :(

I think ours are in the bottom of one of the document bags that says Chelston or Carthago.

One of the best tips is to regularly spray your external locks with WD40 { put the key in and spray inside the barrel } & spray your window rubber seals / flyscreen runners with silicone spray { otherwise they stick like glue to the plastic windows and tear over time } .

I seem to recall several posts saying that WD40 can destroy seals and is not a lubricant.

If your water cap starts to get stiff drop it into boiling water I was told this trick years ago and it works.
I was also advised not to lubricate the lock..
Peter.

I think it more what scroats would put in...
Fancy drinking diluted pee?
Yeah, the only flap with no lock is the EHU, seems no-one is likely to give you free electricity.
