Maiden voyage across the channel tonight - first time on a ferry and abroad in a MH . I only got our destination port wrong and had to cross through the lanes to the le harve one - not Caen

Mrs was nervous , now she’s nervous and narked at me !!!

Every trip is an adventure!
Enjoy your first trip across the water, you will love it! :france:

I am possibly more confused than you, are you coming home or have you just crossed into France?

if the latter why did it matter where you had arrived

it might just be me not reading your post right

Edit - just read again you don’t mean the lanes in France, just the U.K. port check in :whistle2:

Always best to make a few obvious mistakes it stops them looking too closely for other ones!

You’ll be doing it again and again.
Circumnavigate the odd roundabout a couple of times to get your bearings.
It’s surprised us how far we could get compared to driving at home in a given time.
You could do 300miles in the time it would take to do 150 in the U.K.

Have FUN. Do you have a planned route, or is it a case of wherever takes your fancy. Whatever you do have a great and safe trip. I'm sure the wife will understand and forgive your mistake, easy mistake to make, not only on the first trip, believe me.

I can top that. :) I drove to the Hook of Holland to catch a ferry once. They looked at my ticket and said I needed to go to Europort instead. It was only a mile away as the gull flies - but a good twenty by road!

It can happen...

We once went to the wrong port in Dublin, no idea there were 2. Missed our ferry home but they were very understanding and I got the impression we weren’t the first to do it!

Happy travels or should I say Bon Voyage

Have a good time there try a few Aires if you haven't already decided to. Also don't forget the wine limit could be coming down soon.

Bit late now but I would have suggested landing in daylight for your first trip! :)

Jewellbags we stayed in Caen one night and watched the ferry depart as we sat in a restaurant..thinking that's us tomorrow....next morning got to the terminal and thought the queue seemed non existent....the staff stood in front of the barrier and said due to industrial action you will have to drive to Le Havre...got to Le Havre and there was the addition of extra cars and passengers as the fast cat was damaged ..so we sailed like and evacuation ship...enjoy ..??....btw I popped round and checked on the decorating....looks good ?

Roughly honfleur , arramanche , somewhere, mont Michael , Dinan , somewhere , up the peninsular to Cherbourg with possible barfleur ( ex all the typos ) but open to suggestions

Love all your stories - appears that I’m not the only dweeb in a PVC :-)

You have to use the ol' trick. " Don't get narked at me, you were Navigating"
- "No I wasn't"
- "Exactly"

Always pass the blame on the Navagator.(y)

In my excitement at going on the Chunnel we were queuing to board the train and I saw the green arrow start flashing as I drove past a gap in the bollards so serenely turned left and down onto the Freight platform. Had to make a 52 point turn to get back up the ramp and rejoin the queue. The Boss was narked but the Tunnel Staff were more bemused than anything.

We usually use the Dover-Dunkirk DFDS ferry.

We boarded one year and I was a bit surprised that they shut the bar before arrival a lot earlier than normal then looked out and we were arriving in Calais.

DFDS bookings are done on the same page with Calais departures interspersed with Dunkirk ones so one only has to click the wrong line to get the other port and since it is not necessary to get paperwork out to check-in(they just look at number plate) I had not noticed and just hung the boarding card up also without checking.

Not big problem as only 20-30 km difference, but OH has not let me forget.
