Walking in cadiz today we came across this poor guy in his moho.spanish plates and possibly a hire van. After 20 minutes they managed to get it around the corner to gain access to a better road and a way out.

St Pol de Leon in our case :laughing:

Following his satnav?

Been there, done that.

Even in a smaller vehicle one can come unstuck.

When I was driving VW T5 minibuses, so large car size, a satnav directed me down a lane with ivy-covered stone walls; it got narrower and there was no way of telling when the wing mirrors would contact the wall. I chickened out only to find that the lane only shaved 25m off the safer journey.

Ours was in Guadalcanal, Andalucia, following a diversion!!! I wish we'd had as much space as he had! We did leave a groove from our awning casing in someone's house .

we got in a similar predicament in france looked like there was room to get round but didnt see a large granite plinth round one of the door ways wound up turning the wrong way up a one way to get out

Don’t know if it’s because we are a 9 metre that I’m always cautious with the roads I go down. However nearly became unstuck myself with the Aire at Cadiz, but a quick re route and a quick reverse on a one way street sorted it.

Spain for me.... on several occasions

Tonight's award goes to all the programmers at Tom Tom with a special sense of humour

Yep been there done that Montreuil on Sea when they were doing the town up and diversions were confusing. Always have to be careful for low balconies or hanging plants.

I've stopped selecting 'Shortest route' on my TomTom as it frequently took me to roads like that and dodging and weaving through housing estate backstreets, tiny lanes and over multiple road humps.
I experimented by setting a 15 mile route from my house to a nearby town and although it was probably the shortest it was ridiculously tortuous and took longer than my habitual route.
No doubt a motorhome/HGV GPS with more specific settings/preferences would be better but I tend to still use maps as I like to have a mental picture of my route before setting off so that I can sense any GPS error.
When my kids were allowed to use calculators at school their mental arithmetic was very poor and they came up with some nonsensical numbers, having no idea of roughly what figure to expect.

Well going by the name/make on the front of his motorhome he clearly likes a challenge :giggler:

Pyrgos Greece for us, took 3 policemen and numerous bystanders to stop all the traffic in the square and reverse us up a one way street.

I took a lovely country lane in rural Ireland and started to worry when a very thin strip of grass appeared running down the middle of the road, this got bigger and bigger until after about an hour it was just grass, with no turning places I had to keep going, it took about four hours to do 15 miles, eventually arriving at a tarmac road at the side of a lock, it was then that I noticed the sign pointing to whence I had just come saying
“County Clare Footpath”
I’m a bit more careful now, but not much!(y)

common problem? too much reliance on sat nav. If I had a pound for everyone who said " I just put the destination in my satnav" . A bit of planning required with a MAP.

Done that myself in Navarette.

I can’t blame the sat nav.

Local people were looking at me as though I was some sort of idiot:whistle:

We were sent down a small street in France and there it was. Road blocked diversion !
In a Flair 8000 i, reversed with wife seeing me back when an irate Frenchman decided to have a go. When he saw the look on my face striding towards him, he legged it. Just as well.

After a narrow road in Corfu turned into a footpath we were helped by a chuckling local who took great delight in telling us “the maps been wrong for years”, all the tourists he used to see had disappeared when sat nav became the norm! The map wasn’t always best.

Early this year in Cadiz we followed roadworks diversion and arrived in a similar situation. All adds to lifes interest.

We did it in Trujillo in Extremadura . In our previous Vw Cali followed a sign for car park , “cant go wrong following sign for car park” still haunts me

Just come back from Devon. We went out one day and had to wind the mirrors in on the CAR to get through one lane. Walls both sides talk about a bit on the narrow side.

In a French town while looking for an Aire we arrived at a T Junction but we couldn't get round the corner so the only escape was up a one way street the wrong way.

Twice in the same day in Pisa !
First one.... we managed to jam a whole major route in when I saw un-announced low bridge ahead.. They had to stop the traffic while I backed up 200 yds !
Second was in the town round the back of a hospital
Had driven past the tower and turned right took what started out to be a wide road.
It was one way and after about 50 yds ended up somewhat smaller with cars parked both sides !
I had two looky looky lads guiding me through the parked cars as I had to pull the mirrors in.. they did a great job and I gave them €5 for their help afterwards
But it was at the end of the street the fun started. Right angle turn in to a street that was pretty much the same, again with cars parked up either side and right up to the corner.. With a 8 metre van is was just an impossibility..
About then a cop arrived on a scoot. He took one look at the situation and said.. un momento..
By this time the road behind sounded like the world cup in Africa .. a wall of sound coming from hooters
Cop went off and came back about 3 or 4 minutes later.
Opposite were massive ornate metal gates.. He had got the key to them
Opened up the gates and waved us through indicating to follow him.. Leaving behind total chaos and loud cheering  :whew::oops:
It was the grounds of a big hospital.. and boy did we get some strange looks !!!
When we got to the other side I thanked him profusely, he smiled a big smile and actually saluted me ! :notworthy2:

Looks like plenty of room ....I've been in far worse situations than that lol

I had 3mm either side of my mirrors in xativa and had to get a police escort from cartagena

Done that twice in France ...como was a nightmare

Well of course, I’ve never done anything like that. :gum:

I think he stopped because of the 'Prohibition' sign, which is unclear but looks like a width restriction.
