Speeding in North yorkshire.

Interesting piece of data from the police regarding people caught speeding last year:

Major roads, A19 south of Teesside, A1, and A168, a total of 42,500 people were caught speeding. The worst was one travelling at 144mph. Have noticed lots of mobile cameras on here in the last year or two. Eventually people will get the message I suppose, or maybe not.

Mobile cameras are far more effective revenue gatherers than fixed cameras.
Unlike fixed cameras you never know where there might be.

They must bring in a significant revenue stream as they always seem to be there.

If they do they must all get stolen as soon as they're put out.

All around Nottm ring road are average speed cameras,,,not very often you get overtaken if you stick to the limit,,,Works very well..BUSBY,,

Agree! Nothing to do with a halo, if you don't want the risk of a fine/points do not speed, easy. Naughty persons course is used here, good attendance on my last one

Down here we have camera signs up where they put the mobile cameras but the fixed ones aren't signed in advance.
Just looked it up, it is only a code of practice so it's up to the individual areas whether they do or not.

Canna be that effective as revenue gatherers .. Norfolk got shot of theirs some 4 years ago as they did not even pay their way ! Mind you, perhaps we are a more law abiding lot that you Yorkshire lot !

Yes they do.. But you will find the signs are fixed at regular intervals, usually 3 to 4 miles apart.
There has to be a sign within 2 miles of a fixed camera, a mobile camera or where a police officer is going to use a 'gun' ( not sure any where using them now though )

There's a novel idea in use in the village of Springholm in Dumfries & Galloway which is on the A75 euro route.
The village has a 30mph speed limit & if you exceed that limit it triggers a set of traffic lights to go red, hey presto you grind to a halt.
So its up to you if you pass through at a sensible speed you carry on unimpeded.
I realise that this is no use on the A1 but at least your not being fleeced of your hard earned cash.

I’ve seen those and think they’re a good idea, but the thought occurs to me that if you are going to break the speed limit, would you not just go through the red light?

North Yorkshire police are using cameras purely to raise money,they have sod all to do with road safety. They hide behind buildings and bushes and the ones on motor cycles hide and just leave a tripod on the road side. And before all you angles say you shouldn’t speed i bet none of you haven’t accidentally gone over to 33-35mph at some time .

That’s me A19 Thirsk, downhill section of course, dry day next to no traffic and 4wd BMW with big brakes and good tyres, guilty as charged but we got coffee on the speed awareness course so all OK.

Yes we have them here next door in Almeria .If you stop when they go red the trafico car behind will either A ) run in to you B) hand on horn & wave you to ignore them ( usual)

Coupar Angus has a similar system on the route in from the north beside the park/school. Triggered by traffic, not speed. Quite often get to the lights and the change to green so not stopped but they do control speed. I think a kid was killed on that stretch a few years back
