Seeing as we can't make any definitive plans I've just SORNed our MH ... :crying1:

No point paying tax for something we're not likely to use ... :(

Are you assuming the UK will lock down?
No, but as we decided not to go abroad and with the weather getting colder it's very unlikely that we'll go away in the UK (I do NOT do cold!), so it seemed the sensible thing to do, if we do change our minds we can always re-tax it.

As I have now cancelled Christmas and New year celebrations, I, too, have sorned my van. Crap, innit? :(
Yup ... not that we had any celebrations planned as we are happy on our own with the pooches but it would've been nice if the weather was gonna be mild to have a break, will just keep an eye on the weather forecasts and if it looks like we're gonna have a nice spell for a good few days we might go for a short break.

SORNed my M5 at end of Oct as i knew i would not be using it til March 22 earliest. Then looking to sell for a another car.

First time I've Sorned the Mobilvetta - figure it's not worth using the van until travel restrictions are lifted - might use the Eriba though

Did mine in September after the wife took a tumble.

Never bother to sorn ours, saves less than 14 quid a month would rather have it available for use. If not using like to take it out for a run every few weeks.
Our youngest daughter is coming back from Thailand on the 18th Dec she is spending first week at her inlaws & we will join them on their farm, & we will be using the van at Christmas to visit wife's brother & mum & back to the farm for New Year.

I thought like that for years. Then the penny dropped, it takes about 2 mins to tax on line.
Last year i SORNed 4 vehicles, 2 for 2 months 2 for 4. Ended up with just short of £400 that would have been sat on the driveway.

But when it's only one Motorhome & only £13.75 a month I can't be bothered & I'm fairly certain we will be using it in Dec, first couple of days of Jan & then hope to get down to Spain in Feb.

That's a point. We always go away for a good bit over Xmas. Like last/this year we were away for 4 months.

Can understand that but not everyone pays just £13.75 a month! The moho is £24.50 which adds up over a few months.

Sorned mine last year , then 3 weeks later on a decent sunny saturday trotted off to Southport in it.
Decided to stay over....Woke up the next day and about tea time (fish and chips on the prom) thought SHIT !!!.
promptly tried to tax it again and got an error not able to do it.

Went home and managed it 3 days later. WHoops! impulsive ...never even crossed my mind about what Id done

A rather agest e mail from DVSA suggesting 70year olds and over should keep their money in there pockets.
As more than 800 folk last year forked out cash to those sudo sites that charge you for what is a free .Gov service
So remember all you wrinklies Anything at all to do with licences, road tax, registrations, sorn, passports etc IS FREE when you use .Gov.uk.
Dont pay for free services.
A bit cheeky suggesting its only 70+ that get caught

After sorn (ING) our for a few months at the beginning of the year I cashed it..
Was costing us a grand a year just sitting there...bought an eriba troll caravan and love it..cost us nothing.!

Maybe in a year of two we'll buy another motorhome ..
Still got the dayvan

We have a different take on it though we are not out overnight in our 21 year old Hymer Eddie reckons that taking it out once a fortnight keeps everything running smoothly and keeps trouble away, we have done this for the past 17 years we've had the van touch wood it seems to work so I don't see the point in sorning the van and spoiling a form in the formula that works for us.

I am out of days to go to Europe until next year,, can I have some of yours,,😃😃 BUSBY.

Unfortunately we don't have sorn in Spain, but then it's only €73.42 for the motorhome. 😁
But I do like to jump in and go so wouldn't bother, knowing me I would want to go just before the start of a new month and loose out. 🙄😁 Bob.

I agree with Carol, I like to give mine a run every few weeks just to keep everything moving. Machines don't like to stand and not move and could give expensive issues to fix later.
Also, are you insured if the van is not taxed ?

Our van has just started it's 8th winter lay up. Still on original tyres and never missed a beat 🤞 it is garaged though.

And in France no road tax for any vehicles :-)
