Had a break in the other night while sleeping in my MH. Burstner ixio A class

Screw driver in cab door lock 30 minutes after I went to bed

Growler Alarm eventually went off when door was opened enough but nicked my phone

Now have the lovely job of replacing lock and at the same time what can be done to increase the difficulty of this happening again

So some advice please of the following

How hard is it to fit the new lock taking into account I don't have van doors so more door internal stuff to strip down

Can you get the locks and the change the fins to code lock to current key

What would you add to make it better while on strip down

Do you know anyone who has and can do this work

Back to the two scrotes I did challenge them and they did come over and give me my phone back by leaving it on the pavement

Cheers
Graham

When this happened to us, we didn't need to replace the locks. We fitted proplates to prevent happing aggain and to hide the tiny nick that could be seen under the driverā€™s door.
I will find the thread for you.
Here it is

Edit : sorry misread post and thought it was the usual screwdriver under the door handle.

I did tie the door with a belt so the door will only open a bit so the alarm goes off. Van bitz growler

I have window alarms to

What else can you do with the ham door and passing door

This is an a class you cant tie doors together you only have one door

Only left shitty Ducato van lock. I guess the locks are set in plastic sleeve. Total crap

I don't like drilling holes every where but the milenco external arm lock I guess will stop them

They do look crap though

Just spent a grand on the growler but I guess it did stop them or was it my Ā£5 leather belt across the door that did the trick

There are replacement door barrels available for the can doors, but the hab lock is mostly plastic. Big screwdriver in the keyhole and turn it. Rips through the pins and the lock rotates releasing the door

An experienced thief will carry a screwdriver bent at 90 degrees, as this gives loads of leverage on the lock

You ideally need the services of a specialist locksmith, like garrison locks to fit you a security barrel in the cab door. Or fit an extra deadlock to prevent the door being opened. With the hab door, you can get replacement round key barrels. but the security risks are still going to be there with plastic locks and plastic windows

forget the milenco external locks as they become troublesome after a while. Look at commercial van locks for a deadbolt type lock with a decent euro cylinder barrel

You need to fit an ABUS dead Bolt itā€™s a cylinder lock I fitted them on our old Exsisi and they worked well also more of a visual deterrent as they can see a screwdriver wonā€™t workšŸ˜ŠšŸ‘

No additional safety's or alarms with stop them making a mess of the doors and lock's.
Nothing is going to stop the scrotes damaging the doors.

Strap the doors to something solid inside (like another door or the table leg).
Try not to draw attention by looking too affluent.
Maybe pay to stay on a site.

Mmm good point re abus dead lock barrels. If you cant get a screw driver in lock barrel then even if its seated in plastic that would stop them opening door with screw driver

If it was another key then that would be ok as you don't use key and you use remote to lock it

Fit that to both hab and the one cab door and sorted I think

Or have I missed something

My A class has no lock keyhole on the 'drivers' door (passenger side). If the remote central locking stopped working there is a keyhole in the hab door though.

I fitted one of these on both doors...it slides over and covers original door lock

Yes they may be able to crowbar them off but wont be easy and then they still have to open original door lock and get by the alarm

Milo barks if a fly farts so if i was in the van a break in should be impossible.

My measures are mostly for when the vans left unattended somewhere
