Five years plus three tugging
Just receive a renewal letter from Saga. Last year was £420. This year is £620!!

We have been with them for three years and have only seen cost increase in line with inflation. We haven't hit anyone, haven't made a claim, haven't increased our mileage, haven't replaced the chrome taps for gold.

I have heard that Saga won't reduce the price when you ring up. Is this the case?

Is there a list of other insurers that we could try, because £620 is ridiculous and they can eff off.

Wasn't there some sort of legal change recently where insurers are now not allowed to penalise existing customers with massive price increases and new customers with cheaper? I am sure i read that recently as my motorhome insurance came through last week and the first time in a long time it has gone down.

When I renewed our insurance this year (May) Saga were among the cheapest which was a surprise as they have usually been considerably more expensive then our existing insurer.
Try A-Plan insurance, they have a specialist Motorhome group and they have consistently found us the best prices every year. This year their renewal price went up a bit but nothing like you have been quoted. Their breakdown cover is also very well priced.

I don’t even phone them to haggle if they send me a quote like that. Just go elsewhere. If it’s an auto renew I get new cover then phone to cancel auto renew. If they say they’ll have another look I tell them I assume they have already sent me their most competitive quote and I’ve already renewed. Too many firms simply hope you won’t check and screw you for extra money!

I went with Comfort.....weren’t the cheapest but competitive and good reviews and good level of cover seemed to give best overall deal.

Why?
Your postcode has been reclassified to a riskier grade?
They've changed underwriters?
Overall claims history has meant higher payouts than income?
...or they simply want a higher yield.

When does this new and existing premium has to be the same regulation come into effect?

We've been with Staveley Head for 7 years now, I usually change insurer every year but they never put the premium up. They tried to on the first renewal but I rang up with other quotes and they matched the price, been very reasonable ever since. It's usually about £250 fully comprehensive 10k miles with 3 month European cover 😊

Saga quoted me £128 for my car and £680 for my motorhome Pete best quoted me £320 with lv guess where I went

I've recently received my insurance renewal from Camping and Caravan Club. It went down! On looking through the cover, the windscreen cover had reduced from unlimited to £1k. European cover to 90 days full cover in one period of Insurance and a total of 120 days in total. I am looking for a new insurer. Check policy details closely. Cheapest is not bestest.

Just renewed ours with Comfort. £347 including euro breakdown recovery and the other usual additions.

For the new 120d beamer I'm picking up today, £268, again fully comp euro assistance etc.

AFAIK that comes in from January 2022 so at present they can still do what they like.

Try Asda compare site, that’s where I got mine from after @Minxy Girl’s recommended it.
You beat me to it! :giggle:

Its often that renewals are a lot more than the first year's premium because they remove any 'new business' discounts and/or hope you'll just renew without checking. It could also be that they have changed underwriter as I've had that a couple of times now and this hiked the prices quite a bit so I went elsewhere.

We was with Saga for years, they always increased the premium and give new customers the discount, we found the hassle phoning and moaning only last that call, and next year it horrendous again, so moved on to Safeguard and never got all the junk mail that Saga sent us. 😁 Bob.

Done. Comfort. Down from £620 to £270. Fully comp, Yerp cover, trailer, windscreen, contents and only a £200 excess. Three hundred & fifty quid cheaper than Saga so they can go do one. Gonna ring them back now and torment them a bit...

Thanks for the advice to choose Comfort.

I've just got a quote from Comfort and they wanted £860.12.

Went back to the Caravan and Camping Club. Got cover for unlimited windscreen, 365 days in Europe comp cover but I think limited to 180 days. Premium same as last year.

My rather elderly neighbour had this from SAGA last year, so I guess its how they operate.

After a lot of phoning around in insured my Hymer via Carol Nash, who are a specialist brokers and have insured my motor cycle for ten years. Never had this sort stuff from them. 'Specialist' MH insurers wanted about £900, we got it for around £400 including me, wife and two 27 year olds. Cheapest quote ( a bit less) was from LV but they could only do two named drivers.

We’ve been with advance for about 5 yrs . This year they were way over. Went with saga and fixed for 3 years! we have 4 vehicles and currently use 3 different insurers!!!!
Bottom line is shop around every year and do like for like.

A lot of it depends on when you obtain the quotes. If you leave it late the premiums are more expensive. Around three weeks before renewal is supposed to be the optimum time.
