Autotrail Imala 625

Since 2016 and caravanning before that
We've been looking for something to charge phones etc while off grid. Normally this would be for perhaps four days at a Festival for example. So perhaps two charges each for two tablets and the same for two phones.

We saw this one on Amazon and wondered if anyone had any knowledge of these.

the Imala 625 has a 90ah battery doesnt it and 100w solar panel ? use the 12v socket in the back and plug in a phone adapter

i have the imala 734

or are you talking tenting at festivals

It does. Hadn't thought of that as we didn't have a 12v in the old van. Only been out in this one twice :giggle:

a simple cigar plugin with usb output

We have some portable ones including two that supposedly solar charge but liked this for the possibility of solar charging it

Not in any rush for a solution then.
It's going to be a while before festivals are revived.
So far both the New Forest Folk Festival and Fairport at Cropredy are both making very positive noises about being on. Fingers crossed

Other funsters have recommended the Scosche adapter. I found them at Rymans recently for just a fiver...

We're overthinking not realising the possibility offered by the 12V by the TV.

Thanks all

I hope not, we let our Belladrum tickets rollover from last year to this, looking forward to meeting thousands of fellow vaccinees!

We have a fold out solar charger about same size as an ipad folds out to make three ipads of solar. In full sun soon charges the phones.

Ive done a few 12v and 230v chnges to the imala, if you want to know where anything runs just let me know.
eg..the tv socket at the back can be run all the way down behind the cupboards to the front over the large seat and more 12v added , same with the 230v cables.

Definitely overkill for charging phone and tablets. As others have said, you have workable solution in the van's electrical system which would be cheaper and easier.

Thanks for all the advice. Saved us a fortune 🤗

I too am a fan of the Anker powerbank. I’ve had one for a few years now and think it’s a quality bit of kit and small. Obviously other makes are available.

Hubby has plumbed in several 12v USB sockets for charging the phones and pads, in fact just about anything that you can charge on USB!
We do have an inverter but it doesn’t get used much, mostly the hoover when we are actually motoring.

i will suggest that to my wife hoovering whilst travelling

https://www.talentcell.com/ have various size & mah power bank options.
The one I have has a USB outlet and a 12v out via a mini jack.

And can be used while on charge.
My use is for astronomy but it would be great on the road,

My phone no longer holds a charge well. Anker Powerbank is the solution as it is easily portable (will fit into a large pocket) and can do a number of recharges. Despite that I have some USB points in the van, I often find it easier to use the Powerbank.

The "power station" linked above would seem OTT for phone charging, but might have been useful for tenters or similar off grid who needed a bit more resources, perhaps they were charging LED lighting and similar.

The Talent Cell link just above your post?
Sorry, I used the link that went to the main page as there are lots of 12v options for motorhoming.
I have the YB1206000-USB
It's a little wider but flatter than my Anker powerbank.
My Anker is decent but can't be charged while in use. i.e. if you want to keep the powerbank where it is but also charge it.
And there is no observed storage drain on the Talent Cell (y) it's always on the used state I left it in between scattered nights viewing the sky - and the 1st charge.

TL;DR the Talent Cell battery has made the Anker one I have obsolete. ymmv

If all lockdown release steps are on track, festivals are back this summer (if we on about music ones  )

Seems a bit ott to charge phones,we just plug ours in overnight to usb sockets connected to the leisure battery and also have a couple of portable chargers that were only a few pound each.never had an issue.also charge up the portable power packs similarly. (y)

I have a 20,000 mah battey. It's brilliant.

This hippy lady from USA runs her entire van of these things, including lights, fans and even a smoothie maker!

Your Anker is alot like mine :)
And from it's faq is also not usable while it's being charged.
For a few ££ more the Talent Cell is usable while being charged. (y)
The importance of that is your usage.
For example, it means I could use my power bank while still star gazing :)

I've never attempted to use it while charging TBH.

I usually use it to charge my phone at night and charge the battery itself via the cars 12v socket while driving around.
