Hi all,

We ordered our first brand new MoHo in March, and with all that has been going on, have just had it delivered by the dealer to my home. Obviously in the excitement on delivery, everything looks great!

On closer inspection after a couple of days, there are a few things that I am a bit dissapointed about. I would appreciate your thoughts. It could be just me being pedantic.....

So, first thing is that the majority of the silicone on the roof is mouldy (very), see picture. Would you expect this on a new MoHo, or would you have thought their prep team should have made it spotless? Should I have to spend hours trying to get it clean?

Secondly there are 4 stone chips on the bonnet and a scratch on the passenger door. Now, they did deliver it to me FOC, but not on a low loader, they drove it here. So their argument could be that it happened on the way. Our last MoHo was 5 years old and only had a couple of stone chips!

A little more minor, but there is a blemish on the bumper and the lens built into the side mirror is cracked.

I just feel deflated after waiting so long for our first brand new Motorhome, it doesn't feel like it should.

Feel free to tell me I am being unrealistic, or, should I pass all this back to the dealer to sort? They have been sort of responsive so far on a few other missing items, so have no reason to think they wont sort it, but I don't want to be one of "those" customers.

Thanks in advance
Dean

You have every right to an unblemished purchase. I would list your comments as a set of bullet points and let the dealer sort it for you.

I would check the Certificates of Conformity for the build date of the chassis and of the conversion. That mould on the sealant looks like a couple of years worth to me.

When you took delivery did you inspect it and photograph the damage as without any evidence at the time of delivery the dealer could be awkward and blame you for the damage.

New should be immaculate ! Obvious that no pdi was done.
Used should be as near spotless as possible, if existing damage it should have been pointed out by dealer or spotted by you. Also it should have been valeted beforehand.
Get on the phone to them and send pics of any problems to them.

After all motorhomes are not cheap

Thank you all for the comments. I did inform the dealer about everything within 48 hours. They have responded on the missing items (freezer shelf, screw covers etc) saying they are on the way to us, but nothing on the condition yet. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't me before have a discussion on Monday.

Thanks Lenny. One of the other things missing so far is the COC and manuals..... On there way to us.

I had photos to them within 48 hours, so they would be on a sticky wicket.

Thanks
Dean

If the OP hasn't driven it then an awkward dealer would soon experience some similarly awkward publicity...

For the date of the chassis remove the dashboard ashtray, or something similar, and it will have a date stamp on the underside.

Just another comment. The vehicle was covered in bugs on delivery, so couldn't have seen the scratches/stonechips until I cleaned it the following day. And of course, from down low, couldn't see the sealant on the roof.

Also, we did get a deal because it was last years model; but it is brand new.

Thanks SS, will go out and find the date to check it is correct.....

Not uncommon to find faults on a new motorhome. Sadly, this is the state of our m'home industry. The sealant might be an issue and I would want to know when the motorhome was built ? Ordered in March and delivered yesterday means in my book the motorhome was already built. Agree 100% with Lenny HB . However, I wonder what your legal rights would be if the motorhome is a couple of years old, yet you are the first owner ? Might be worth checking you have a good warranty cover over leaks. A bit of mould on the sealant may be insignificant providing the seal itself is 100%. I would be interested to hear the dealers response. Safe Travels.

Definitely a dealer problem. Get onto them straight away.

Without naming and shaming yet as they will obviously need to have reasonable time to respond, where about in the country is your dealer situated?

If it has been sitting around for a couple of years I hope you got a decent discount. I got 20% off my current Hymer on a factory order for a van sitting around for a couple of years I would expect a lot more than that.

I wouldn't accept any of the faults other than, maybe, the mouldy sealant (NOT silicone I hope). The mould itself doesn't suggest any sort of problem in itself but would, as others have stated, make me question the build date.

Good lord.. 4 stone chips! 😳 our van has got a couple of tiny ones but has done 30,000 miles.
Can't imagine how it's got 4 by being delivered. What's on the odometer?

I would complain to the dealer in the same way you have put up your post on here, ie express your disappointment. Stone chips shouldn't have occurred on quiet road unless the driver was flogging it up someone's backside.

How disappointing, feel for you although personally I'd never buy a "brand new" vehicle.

Also, we did get a deal because it was last years model; but it is brand new.
Be interested to see the actual date of manufacture, but I'd bet it's 2 years old already. "Unused" would be a better description than "brand new" IMO.
But arriving with silicone in that state (mine is 13 years old and not that bad) is really unforgiveable, a proper PDI should have sorted that. Light lens crack almost certainly caused by mirror being knocked whilst in storage/moved around - must be replaced. Stone chips - well going to be difficult to prove responsibility, may have to go to one of the chips away companies.

But don't feel too bad, once you get these little niggles sorted and are out on the road you'll soon forget about them.
Enjoy your new toy!

If it’s last years model it looks like it’s been sat outside on a forecourt in all weathers, it maybe new no previous owners or ever been driven but the silicon looks likes it’s been outside at some point.

I think we should perpetuate the myth that silicone is used as an external sealant on motorhomes  .

If you have a good dealer he will be more than happy to keep you happy, one of our new cars was breaking down on the way home 22 miles on the clock, it was a diesel smart so rear engine and on handover the flowers they had given Janie had got so hot they died. 🙄
So a quick phone call, and telling them to remove this so and so from my drive, a recovery truck turned up with another to use, they repaired it, they would not guarantee the engine for 60.000 miles so we rejected it, they had a petrol one at another branch same colour, so we had that and another bunch of flowers, 😁 we had paid extra for a super duper polish, they hadn't done on this car, take it in, loan car go back and they had put it all the black plastic trim / wing mirrors, not happy sort it out, but couldn't fault the dealers, we never had anymore complaints in the time we kept it. 🙂
Good luck with yours, it should be in showroom condition. 🙂 Bob.

You trying to start a war. :ROFLMAO:
A bit like calling a vacuum cleaner a Hoover.

I can't use that word in our house, especially since the lady of the house bought herself a cordless Dyson!
I still have a Henry Hoover in my workshop though...

Have seen motorhomes at dealerships for sale described as being "new" & new prices being quoted for stock that had been on display for much longer than a year - if it is older than you were told & you accept it after everything has been put right there should be a reduction in price. Not a good start but hope it all works out & you can start enjoying motorhoming.

Warranty is 10 years water ingress, 2 year manufacturer and 5 year M&G, all starting on delivery date.

Dealer is a couple of hundred miles away, but thought that the 20% discount we got was worth it.

Will check the date when it stops raining......

Sorry, dont know the difference between silicone and sealant.... ;)

Email sent, with a list of issues and asking for a tel call on Monday morning.
