Peter, just spoke with my mate and he said judicious use of a hair dryer and 2 people one playing the dryer the other pulling with 2 hands and it can be removed with ease. There will be a dirt outline to clean off and then a good polish followed by a wax. In his opinion the vynil is poor quality. If you didn't like the "new" look he said go to a graphics company and get it remade and fitted in a decent quality material.
Quite shocked that vinyl trim is used to be honest. Carbon was an option on the XF and it was actually the real thing. As above it is easy to remove though

By XF I assume you mean Jaaagwaar, different to a motorhome really, you couldn't do the big side graphics in "real carbon" OK for mirror covers spoilers and splitters on a car though,

Well I suppose if you really wanted to you could but even a 1K 100gsm woven cloth would be 0.1mm and plus the adhesive would leave a sharp edge

@manda3000gt have a valeting and detailing business and one of their clients is Irizar UK. David uses a diesel powered steamer to remove stuck on decals from large coaches and other vehicles, it saves loads of time and effort and is more forgiving than hot air apparently.

I was shocked with the Flair, I remember being in the factory and watching it being applied; having had a full paint Yankee with admittedly bawdy graphics but nonetheless superbly painted with a clear coat like glass I said you are joking, sticky backed plastic on a E250k motor home! Of course they looked at me as though I was the lunatic, which I suppose some on here would agree with! If it was not all the warranty stuff I would just say forget all the graphics just give me the digital files and I will get my bus paint shop to do a proper job!

May I be so bold as to suggest that the quality of the vinyl which has been applied is not as good as it could be.

My grandson races in Autograss events and although he is only 16 he is extremely particular about how his car looks, I could go as far as suggesting ‘anal’.

Anyway, the point of my post is to say that the carbon look vinyl in which the car is wrapped is flat but appears to be ribbed. I am very surprised at the strength of the material which is subject to numerous dings and bumps which occur during races.

I have attached a photo, which does not do justice to a physical inspection, but may give you an idea of what can be achieved by wrapping specialists. The whole shell is wrapped, no paint anywhere.

The silver strip on my Concorde is similar, it is a thicker vinyl with ridges and if you get polish on it you can’t clear it off, so what I use is “Back to Black” cleans it up nicely.

I would have thought that a better solution would have been found, considering that there really are some great products available. Still not every manufacturer gets it right every time..

Wow! So much to be thinking about. Thank you all so much for some very sensible (and therefore, for some, not very amusing) suggestions. All are very welcome.

I do wonder what a full or even partial wrap might look like and cost? Any ideas?

I would like to have a subtle company logo on the Morelo or go full out if it was a viable option. Anyone here with inside knowledge or the skills would be more than welcome to suggest almost anything over what is there now.

Now there's an invitation......

Cheers

A poor quality vinyl wrap can cost only a few quid for a square meter but the top end stuff will cost circa £60m2 plus fitting.

The positive thing about your Morelo is that you'll only be wrapping a segment of your flat sides so that is easy to do - there'll be no complications and no extra time needed for panel joins or door tapering etc.

That said Peter, don't remove any wrap yourself before visiting your chosen wrapper as it'll be easier to talk through a plan with him before he physically maps the dimensions. It will also help you establish where is the best place to position your logo when he applies the map to the PC for printing.

A typical mid-sized car will cost £2,000 to be wrapped fully but that will double when high grade materials such as a pearl or chrome colour is used.

Graphics can add a bit extra to the cost but I assume that will be an easy transfer of the logo to the wrapper since you will already own the copyright.

Hope this helps,

All the best,

Andrew

Older model.

Useful picture Martin, which is representative except for the missing logo which remains and a single line along the top if my memory serves me. Peter if you want the Morelo logo they have an EPS on the web site. I used it to play with and it can be easily scaled for your new wrap.

I had the front end of my car wrapped in a clear to stop stone chips and that cost near a £1000 but saved on painting when I sold it to a dealer.

When you get to our age Peter we'll let you come play, but until then keep on working, someone has to keep our state pensions flowing(y)

Surely you'd just get out of the front side windows or the skylight depending on the emergency?
Well indeed but they can only be opened electrically (sliders) and that may not be an option depending on whether the circuit breaker had activated. In such an event, I would make my way to the rear large bedroom window and use that to exit I think but it doesn't bear thinking about really

Ours are electric too but have a manual override for emergencies. Are you sure yours doesn’t have the same system?
