We use the HalifaxClarity and have found it great in France, Belgium and Switzerland but have a problem in Italy so used our Visa card for fuel but it was fine on their toll roads. You pays your money and take your chance but I wouldn't take a large amount of cash with me.

Mainly use an Aqua credit card, which offers net exchange rates + 0.5% cashback!

Carry a range of other credit cards and and some euro cash too.

Works for us.

Well I decided to go with Revolut, as recommended, and downloaded the App and registered- I used the code MSE as mentioned by Minxygirl- so transferred £10 on to app and got an extra £5.
So changed £15 into Euro's at exchange rate of €1.4211
